Haven't ours been less rumour more the real thing the last few times this has happened though?

True. Although last year I remember it was a pic of Henry (and Linford Christie randomly?) wearing an almost pained on version of our current top. Don't even know how he would get that over his head!

Bad luck Hull couldn't hold on. Win against Liverpool next and we have one foot in the Champions League for next season.
And we will get knocked out in the Round of 16 again unless we add some class to our team

Surely at some point there must be a higher goal than "making the champions league"

Henry just carefully explained to the shirt how it was meant to happen, and suddenly it was there and had no idea how it did happen, but had a warm feeling inside

The next two weeks are tremendous for us. FA Cup the obvious blockbuster fixture, but a huge chance to get one foot into securing a top 3-4 spot with the league games v West Ham (H) and Newcastle (A). Both sides missing starting strikers and, in West Ham's case, a starting CB. 2/2 there should leave us needing 4 wins from the last 8 games to secure it.

Well things have worked out quite well since this :D still believe even 4 wins from the remaining 8 will do it.

Liverpool (H), Burnley (A) and Chelsea (H) are difficult. 5 points from these fixtures would send us on our way. Regardless, we should be aiming for 9-12 points in the three home games against Swansea, Sunderland, West Brom and the away game at Hull.

A win v Liverpool and we're on our way to top 3 or better IMO.

I totally agree with this for sure. But in the position we are now, we can't really do much more.

Win the FA Cup again and qualify for the CL, where we can hopefully make a good tilt at progressing past the round of 16.

The clubs goal is to win the league each season. That's never changed.

The minimum expectation is to make the Champions league because of the revenue. Revenue which has allowed the stadium payment to be under control and now free up funds to add that "Class" that you want.

Ozil and Sanchez have been added in the last two off seasons, We made a play for Suarez too. We are now in a position to get the players we want.

Expect another "class" signing in the off season - Looking particularly at Germany/Dortmund.

We've underachieved this season.

Too many dropped points from winning positions, a lot of these against rubbish opposition. Should be neck and neck with Chelsea at this point, not 7 points and one more game played.

We also went out in the CL knockouts to a team that would finish upper mid-table in the BPL - pretty embarrassing stuff.

Although we have made some genuine progress, as always, it's two steps forward, one step back.

Welbeck and Walcott are similarly wasteful in front of goal but can see why Welbeck is preferred at the moment.

Offers more of a team game and much better defensively.

You're joking right?

Walcott can actually put the ball in the back of the net - he's one of the best finishers at the club. Welbeck looks like he'd struggle to score an empty netter at times.

Walcott's finishing since coming back from the knee injury has been terrible. His final ball has gone backwards hence his greatest asset now is his pace and getting in behind a high line.

Pre injury, he was in career best form and had a lot more to his game.

And you don't think that will return with confidence and game time ?

Most certainly yes. Its odd how much Wenger has under used him of late, especialyy with Ox's injury.

Which led to my earlier comment - that Welbeck seems to be preferred because of what else he brings to the team.

Did chuckle at this quote from Wenger re: Walcott's contract:

“The first contacts have been established with the embassy,” Wenger said. “We will see how that progresses politically. Walcott was difficult to convince [last time] and that is why it took us much time. We started very early with him but it was slow progress. He is very quick on the pitch but off the pitch, not always.”

Walcott is playing the same contract game he did before.

Except now he cant use "potential" or "form" to warrant a pay increase.

Not at all fussed if he leaves. Easily replaceable.

Had to rewatch this. Great stuff. How many goals against Spurs? The goal to put us 3-2 (in the first 5-2 at the Emirates) was his first overall that season I believe, was injured for the first few months. That game was played in February I recall, might be wrong though.

He owns the filth ;)

That midfield diamond of Rossicky, Hleb, Fabregas and Flamini in 07/08, we should have won that season.

Very strong first XI with lots of talent, but just didn't have the leadership/steel to galvanize us after the Birmingham debacle.

What should've been three points turned into a circus with the Gallas meltdown, Eduardo injury etc.
