The best part is, Carlton are appointing John Barker as the interim coach - and he may, in all honesty, be the worst assistant coach in the history of the game.

His record as an assistant: in 2007, he joins St Kilda as forward coach and cripples the amazing forward line of Riewoldt, Gehrig, Koshitchzke, Milne and a host of other guns into an inept, dour, dysfunctional mess. The Saints struggle for two years. Then he leaves in 2009, and the Saints instantly make back-to-back Grand Finals.

In 2009, he joins reigning premiers Hawthorn, again as their forward coach, where he dismantles the best forward line in a decade, completely neutering Buddy (fresh off a 100 goal season), Roughead, Williams, Rioli and co into such a shocking rabble that they miss the finals in 2009, and barely sneak in the next year where they're summarily eliminated. Barker leaves, then the Hawks immediately resume their status as one of the elite teams in the comp, taking two premierships, three GFs and a prelim over the next four years.

In 2011, he joins a Carlton side that goes within one kick of a preliminary final. Again, he takes over the high-scoring, fluid forward line and renders it completely ineffectual: Carlton slide to 10th, then 9th, then 13th, then 18th.

Long may he prosper as Carlton's senior coach!

No sympathy for Malthouse, Carlton, or most of their supporters. One only has to re visit the Carlton BF board after they snared Malthouse in 2012, then Thomas in late 2013 to reinforce this. Their arrogance and gloating at the time towards Collingwood and their supporters was nauseating. That includes their mods as well.

As for Malthouse, he was a good coach for the Pies. However from mid 2011 onwards he behaved in a malicious, destabilising, self serving manner, and certainly contributed to Collingwood not winning the 2011 flag.
He went to Carlton to stick it up Eddie and Bucks. Oh how that has rebounded on him.

It is salivating to see the worst offenders on the Carlton board now brawling amongst themselves over Malthouse, and wanting Thomas drummed out of their club. The Karma bus has well and truly arrived for the lot of them at Carlton.

If the situation was reversed just imagine how insufferable their crowing would be. The only thing I'm dirty on is that "malignant Mick" won't be in charge when the Swans flog them by 20 goals on Friday.

What about Matthew Lappin?

I'm re-discovering some warm feelings towards Mick, purely due to the spectacular fashion in which he has buried the scum on his exit :D

You Might but I still can’t get over he did a simmer thing to us in 2011

Almost certain to see Mick back at Collingwood some time soon (next 18 months) receiving his well deserved life membership.

I'm not bitter towards Mick, he hasn't changed one bit since his time at the Dogs as coach, he's always been in it for his own legacy and to further his own record. He went to Carlton for one reason, and that was to beat Jock's record and in doing so stick it up Collingwood a little bit.

He's a Collingwood premiership coach though, so he will get life membership, and deservedly so.

I don't take huge pleasure in anyone losing their job or for the stress he must have been under.

The bolded however is something I'll never get past. The destabilisation of OUR CLUB over discontent re a contract he signed (!!!). He repeated many times in the past few weeks that he would never walk away from a contract - well he did, from us, and it took us a year (or 3) to recover from the waves that spread through the playing group

It was not just Malthouse that won us the flag in 2010.

He will get his Life Membership but I still not a Big Fan of his
