Depends on your definition of 'well'. A lot of the problems with Uber centre around market and public transport impacts in the long-term, which no country has experienced yet.

If you suggested making the taxi industry completely unregulated, many Uber supporters would throw up their hands in horror - despite Uber essentially amounting to the same thing.

To be honest I wouldn't disagree with the decision if Uber was banned, however if it meant that the inadequate service provided by the taxi industry wasn't improved then it would be a sad day.

An Uber driver I recently had said he was fined $1800 when he dropped someone off at the airport.

Interestingly, he said that Uber paid the fine for him.

He also said that the pay works 80/20. As in Uber take a 20% cut.

It'll be the suspensions that kill it.

Fines are one thing, but nobody's going to drive for Uber if they lose both their license and car registration for 3 months.

Got a surcharge from Uber on Saturday night, but would still take it in a heartbeat over Swan, at least they don't ask for that $50 upfront charge then scam you by adding the actual fare charge on top of it.

Just realised I accidentally got an uberX home on grand final night when I was pretty tanked, 100 bucks gone but ah well

Got überx from casino to Mandurah (about an hour) at roughly 12am after the grand final. Only costed $118 and we sat in traffic for 20 minutes. Also got picked up in a newish GTS which was cool

I thought it would be a nightmare trying to find it but no problems as you can see on the map where it is. The big plus for mine is knowing roughly how far away it is. So many times I have booked a cab and have been waiting for ages for it to arrive. Then after a while you have no idea if it has already come and couldn't find you or if it simply a busy time and it is still on the way. Real pain in the ass if you need to get somewhere by a designated time.

Over a year ago I was leaving a house party in a crappy suburb with no Ubers around and it was late on a Saturday so I didn't want to listen to the pissy Eminem "Without Me" rip-off call waiting music* for 20 minutes on the phone so I downloaded the 13CABS app.

It was a much crappier app than Uber. I ordered the taxi and it said one was coming and gave a basic map of where it was. About 10 minutes later I clicked on it again to see how far away taxi was and discovered it had been cancelled by the driver but even worse the stupid ******* app hadn't automatically reordered me a new one :rolleyes:

@Damon_3888

You don't live in Brisbane do you, just checking you haven't been belting Uber drivers in between shifts?

- Doesn't bow down at the Uber altar
- Must be a taxi driver, and an idiotic, violent one at that

Ok.

Seriously though, what that guy did is just purely moronic behaviour. Nobody with a brain thinks that's "right" coming from anyone.

That app is ******* terrible. I hate 13CABS.

I had to get an early morning flight to Sydney, back when I lived in Warrandyte (in the really bushy part of the suburb).
I pre-booked a cab for 5.30am using the app so that I would have plenty of time to get to the airport, grab a coffee etc. I waited out the front because my house was hard to find in the dark. 5.30am no taxi. 5.40am no taxi. I check on the app--the taxi has been cancelled.

I called 13CABS, they said the driver had come but no one was there. ******* liars. I requested for him to come back, they said he was ten minutes away. 6am no taxi. I was fuming by this stage. I called back, they said 'oh, did you want us to book the taxi? We thought you would do it'. What the heck. You giant bunch of ******* arseholes. I ended up driving myself to the airport and it cost a fortune in parking.

Taxis can get ****ed, they're all s**t.

I didn't drive for ~10 years or so when I moved to Melbourne so was really reliant on taxis, this would happen at least a couple of times every month.

'Oh he drove past but nobody was there'

I've been literally sitting here the entire time so I really don't see how that is possible...

I guess they just find a juicier fare and then bullshit about it?

I booked a cab a while ago when the app wouldn't work on my phone. Was on the 4th floor of an apartment building, saw the cab arrive and went down the lift which would've been less than 30 seconds. Walk out the gate and had to run to get in because the bastard was already about to turn the corner and leave.

Just used uber, multi drop off for me and a mate $20 for 8km on a Saturday night
Would of been $30 for a taxi. The driver was a friendly Indian bloke in a comfy Subaru.

heck Swan taxis, was waiting in line for 5 minutes and uber arrived in one minute from ordering before we were anywhere near the front of the taxi line.
