Pep did 12 months at Barca B before taking over with no other management experience IIRC. If you have the ability, you have it. Maybe the United hierarchy truly believes that he can do it. Would managing the U21's really advance his management development more than learning from SAF, LVG and maybe Pep/Ancelotti?

but you can do both. you can learn from great managers and still manage a team. pep is a freak. barca lucked out massively there. giggs could be the same, but to go straight from an assistant role to managing manchester united would be insane.

I'm very proud of this board today, United, Liverpool and City supporters just had a conversation without any club trolling whatsoever.

I'm probably a bit blinded but i am certainly hoping that Giggs the same success that Pep had. The only enjoyment I had during The Moyes Year were the 4 games Giggs coached. Ridiculously small sample size but it was late 90's SAF style football.

he may well go on and be a fantastic manager. no one has any clue about that. i just can't see why you would put him straight into the role. the same as zidane. everyone scoffed when it was suggested that he could replace carlo, and rightly so. the guy didnt even have his badges.

Probably the romance of it all and yes i know how stupid that sounds. Giggs completed his Uefa Pro-license coaching badges in 2014. Apparently, Giggs and Frans Hoek take training while LVG watches on. Frans Hoek trains aspiring coaches for Uefa and would be a v good resource for Giggs. I know taking training isn't the same as managing but their is little doubt that Giggs is planning for management. In the event that he did take over, i'd definitely want Hoek to stay on and help him.

there is no doubt he will manage united one day. but he's what, 41? there's plenty of time. i would be shocked if he takes over from van gaal. but in 5-10 years after he gets some experience actually managing a club that he's foreign to could do him much more of a favour than being a favourite son.
