A loss due to a total lack of 2 senior players; Charlie Curnow and Harry Mckay, taking responsibility

For those referring to execution in front of goals, we still lost in the scoring shot department (22-21). Yes, we were superior for inside 50s but being evening the goal-behind ratio wouldn’t have necessarily garnered a win.

Accuracy is appalling but there are alarm bells in various other areas.

When the game was on we had more shots. After they opened the floodgates they finished with a flurry but until then we had more.

If I was Harry McKay, but with the smallest dose of personal pride, I'd be down the local park having 100 shots for goal every day. All this stuff we hear about, oh its the soft cap, we can't have a specialist goalkicking coach, sports science won't allow it because it puts too much stress on his leg etc. I'd be utterly humiliated if I was him and crazy keen to fix it myself. Or hire a coach out of your own pocket and work on it in your own time. He's worse than useless if he can't kick for goal.

Only took about 20 years to get a post out of you...

Welcome to the madhouse...

Guaranteed to happen this week;

  • a club official will mention 'still mathematically possible to make finals'
  • Snapper will call SEN and possibly 3AW
  • the media will try and get rent a quote Matheson to make a comment

How has a game plan got anything to do with our two key forwards kicking accurately?

Is the game plan to kick it crap?
Sure, agree but never mind the long bombs into the forward line all year. Our midfielders aren’t kicking goals and our small are rended useless.

I watch a lot of games and discarding WCE and North, we look to be the worst, we have no system, no synergy . It’s actually quite depressing.

Last year, we looked unstoppable at times… this year we’re deplorable.

I’m normally glass half full and the ultimate optimist but my glass broke tonight.

Fix the conversion and a lot changes confidence levels rise and momentum builds .
The opposite is happening mental demons have flooded the minds of the players in front of goal .
You simply cannot win games going 21-41 as well as a number of out on the full attempts in your last 3 games .
The system doesn't look great but it has created 51-51& 59 inside 50's last 3 games but we just cannot convert our opportunities even Charlie is missing now .
Early goals are crucial for confidence levels.
Feel for Voss because the players are letting him themselves and the club down when they continually botch standard shots on goal .
Voss needs to throw the side around to create uncertainty in the opposition add some youth Binns/Cincotta a must and FFS get some plodders out of the side ( Ed and Hewett ) .
Our midfield has to be somehow reinvented Durdin Saad into the midfield we simply don't get separation once getting the ball to steady and deliver into the fwd line especially at centre bounces .
Our season is retrievable if the coaches are bold and players take responsibility when shooting on goal .

He’ll have no choice next week with the injuries

Someone at selection said, on the smallest ground in the game let's add a 2m+ player to the two great KPFs we already have.

This is a thing people went for.
No, someone at selection said. "Regardless of how shithouse H has been kicking for goal, we will keep letting him suck the life out of our efforts to get the ball forward, because we pay him a lot of money to totally miss the goal front''

And then they said "lets make TDK compete against H and Charlie and spoil each other to at least save H from the yips and give our non existant small forwards a chance to be invisible"

and the coaching staff said " we have a cunning plan, any more cunning, and you could pin a tail on it and call it a rat" , Let's do what everyone expects us to do and kick it high and long, up and under to H. (the aforementioned chap with the yips) and Charlie (who at least on most occasions gives one some confidence of competence)

Then some bloke named Bald Rick said, "but isnt that the same plan we have used for the last 17 years that never works"? But the match comittee, coaches and various hangers on acclaimed " Bald Rick is a fool" Of course the cunning plan will work this time, for we have perfected the 'sky high kick to no-one, and hope our opponents drop the ball tactic'. Tactical genius of the most cunning kind.

'A Premiership is merely a marker of progression within the group. The true goal is self awarenes in the context of chasing an ovoid object in front of a large crowd' Said someone who may have been Guru Bob.

This club has a losing culture and the signs were there when Voss backed up McKay's "around the corner" method of kicking goals. That he trusts the forwards on it. No. They're stupid and need external help from people who know how to kick better than them, never be ashamed to ask for help if you need it. Doesn't make you a lesser person. Swallow your pride, idiot footballers, be honest with yourselves and only then will you be better.

It’s gone too far now. If I was coach I would say to Harry - drop punts only for the rest of the year.

You know why - because he is two minds every time about what to do.

Clear that first - he needs to walk back knowing he is kicking a drop punt and just focus on that.

I won't forget the amount of flak that I and others who critique have copped over time, when we've questioned culture, coach, expressed how unimpressive certain wins were, been critical of "star" players etc. Almost like we were questioned whether we were "real supporters". I've been a member for all but the first 6 years of my life. I've barely missed attending a Melbourne match in 30 years and same goes for watching (on telly) interstate games. I'm certain that level of commitment is a lot more than 99% of people in here.

My view is that those who show blind faith (and I fear there are some within the Club's walls), who don't question culture, coach or players are the most damaging people for the Club.

You’re amazing ! AMAZING!!!!

Pennant golfer hey, your input might be welcome on the golf thread.
It’s a much better vibe than here.
the great thing about golf is that it isnt a team game- even when you are playing team golf it is all about me me me and me. If it is a bad day it is all on me if it is a good day it is all on me if I miss a put it isnt Harry McKay on 800K+ a year missing the putt it is me if I s.h.a.n.k. ( never say the word out loud) it is all about me me and me...

nothing to do with Harry McKay or missed tackles or missed 15 meter kicks by professional footballers or umpires or coaches it is all about me - I don't even have to worry about Vossy - nope it is all about me.

Also my set of Muiras are only a month or so away...nothing like a bit of bling to brighten up a cold winters' foggy morning on a Dewey fairway is there?

I still remember the insults thrown at those who were dead against the Voss appointment at the time and wanted nothing to do with him as our coach.

Maybe Harry might have kicked 1 or 2 goals if he was more central instead of close to the boundary and on the wrong side for a lefty? What if we actually got these boys to lead properly and actually practiced kicking to them on the lead?

We can only dream.

Charlie, no excuse really.

1 goal between 2 Coleman Medallists against a team missing their main 2 KPDs.

Another week where an oppo defender does as he ******* pleases and takes multiple intercept marks because we go i50 with about as much quality as the Keilor U14s.

s*t ball use across the whole ground - how ****** bad is our system that even players drafted and recruited as good ball users look bad playing for us?

Nothing to be positive about. My whole life this club has been utterly irrelevant and it shows no signs of changing any time soon.

Club is rotten from the top down and Voss clearly has NFI. Kennedy on half back again???

No idea how to fix it but there is no joy in footy for me at the moment
Think you may be disrespecting the Keilor junoirs here, mate.
