Guy McKenna sacked as Gold Coast coach

The Sando sacking caught everyone by surprise. He had done well in his first year, lost Tippett to a deal he didn't know about and Walker in his second, had done a reasonable job this season with injuries and had Crows looking competitive going forward.

McKenna dodged the bullet once before and the rumours have been going around for over 2 months that his head was on the chopping board.

Was heading for finals until the best player in the comp did a shoulder, so performance wise he was up there with Sando. The bolded bit is the most important though. That's the right way to sack a coach. None of this 'keep it in house' and make sure the coach is the first outside of the decision makers to know about it. You gotta leak it to your favourite 'journalists' so that everyone knows it's coming at least a couple of months in advance.

This new order at the Crows certainly has a lot of learning to do.

Word is that he has torn his bicep tendon as well, might be out for longer than first thought...

He'll still be back round 1. Silly McCaffer although...what a shame what happened to him round 22!

Fyfe rushed back in 2012 and got back in 13 weeks (with a final series coming up) so you'd expect Gazza won't be back for another month at least.

Wasn't right though, was a man limping in 2012.

Pretty stiff on McKenna but if a quality coach like Thompson is available, they'd have been silly not to consider it. Nature of the beast/industry I guess.

Feel for Mckenna that is brutal.
Hopefully it sets them back a year. Not always easy for new coaches to waltz in and make finals

I am amazed how orchestrated this was. It was on TV last week or 2 weeks ago thinking McKenna dead man walking.

McKenna should have walked away from that BS, nobody deserves that. Badly managed IMO.

Whoever gets it is in a pressure cooker and Cameron at GWS will need eyes in the back of his head to it seems!
I can think of a few hundred thousands reasons why he wouldn't walk.

Definitely agree on Cameron, GWS will need to continue to improve or else he will find himself in the same position next season.

I would find it a bit hypocritical if Bomber took the job, given how outraged he was when Sando got axed.

The hilarious thing for us Adelaide supporters was when he started on that coaches needed performance clauses in their contracts so Boards couldn't just sack them cause they felt like it. Um Bomber, guess what Sando had in his contract...

It's just hilarious how BF has turned our Prelim in 2012 from "the softest draw in history" to "Sando's coaching brilliance was the reason the Crows reached a Prelim".
Can both not be right? Give Western Bulldogs a soft draw next year and I can still assure you they wont make a prelim.

The entire GC playing list is about to be locked in a room for 5 hours with a specialist who just flew in from a job in S.A.
The specialist carries just one piece of paper, and on that paper is written:

'The playing group respect the enormous contribution that *Insert coaches nickname* has made to the club. Unfortunately, this is a harsh, results-driven industry, so we support what was entirely a board decision. We are also 100% behind *TBA*'s appointment and excited about him taking us to the next level as a club'

lol.

i love that kind of ridiilcous PR statements from clubs.

Can't think of too many players leaving a club due to the coach leaving, or a player joining due to a coach. Only current player i can think of is Zac Dawson.

I don't think he was that unlucky, won a few games against the bottom half of the ladder in the first half of the season on the back of Ablett playing amazing football, once he went down and they were faced with better opponents it became clear they hadn't really improved at all.

everyone is looking at this the wrong way.... it isn't necessarily the results.... i point you in the direction of j harbrow. that issue, and general player unrest with bluey, and the way he played favourites ( and no it wasn't playing favroties with the christian boys). i think he has lost the ability to command the respect and standards from the players.

What? Not sure if you have been smoking crack but if you dont think they have improved over the last 2-3 years i would be really interested in hearing how you think your bunch are traveling right now?
