Reality TV Idea: The Caller

[Portmanteau]

We've had Fox Footy's The Recruit, a reality show intended to unearth hidden gems and give them a shot at playing in the AFL.

Given the standard of AFL commentary (diabolical), why wouldn't Fox Footy, or perhaps a commercial network, consider running a similar programme to find the next best AFL commentator? Is there a Clinton Grybas [RIP ] out there somewhere? The next Gerard Whately?

The show could run for ~12 weeks, or a shorter timeframe and involve the contestants guest calling games, doing footy trivia, hosting footy news on FoxFooty etc. The winner could get a guaranteed contract and the other contestants might still get a look in.

For not much expense, we might potentially add much needed quality to the commentary ranks. Thoughts?

The networks today though don't think their callers are diabolical, otherwise they wouldn't have hired them.

Isn't a sense of frustration that Seven could stuff up their AFL commentary, but get the golf ones perfect like Peter Donegan and Ian Baker-Finch?

correct - thats how matthew hill got his job at sky, winning a very similar concept

Brilliant idea, but it would totally destroy the jobs for the ex-players who are mates thing they have going. No way the players in the gig would want to upset their sweet ride

Haha there was enough crabs signing up to join the recruit, I can imagine how many beer gutted bogans would sign up for this looking for an easy career.
