When you look at the better rebuilds, you usually surround them with players of quality. Taking a player like Goddard makes sense every day of the week.

Just not sure Essendon were in the right stage to take him but then again he was recruited before the supplements stuff happened so he was probably a good choice at the time.

mate I am no essendon fan but Heppell is a gun. He would slot into 17 other clubs midfield straight away.

I don't think he is nearly as good as he was 18 months ago. His speed and foot skills are down in comparison to what the standard is nowadays. Mids are now 6'2 + and 90-95 kgs. Prittis is the exception

He finished fourth in the AFL MVP, 8th in the AFLCA player of the year award, was an All-Australian and best and fairest winner.

This year he collected 34 disposals and was best on against Hawthorn in round 2, and 33 disposals against the Pies, once again almost certain to poll Brownlow votes in a losing effort.

That along with being named captain on the under 22 side for every year he was eligible and near universal regard as a star.

I would not write off Goddard yet. He is the typical icing type player, good when those around him are performing, just average when those around him are average.

Goddard was my favorite player when was at the Saints, he was awesome and his kicking was AAA, he seems to have lost most of that really quickly since then. I think your icing comment is the best description in hindsight.
