thanks
so mcg walk at 2km is about 20 mins from memory, so this will be about 30mins.
I guess the 'find 30' movement will be happy. and maybe by season end the extra wide seats they are installing for the fat population will not be required!

Yeh I dont see many people taking that option. If people do drink in the city pre game, I would say most would train to Claisebrook and walk from there or get the Yellow Cat. I would suggest the more ideal spot would be to have a few at the Royal and then head in from there.

Once the residents in and around Claisebrook get their heads around it there is massive potential for bars and Cafes in the area, as such its a very quiet area most the time.

Considering how massive the train station is going to be, it should be very quick and easy for everyone to catch a train to Perth station. Those in the leafy Western suburbs who are the ones complaining dont really have a choice. Also there will be shuttle buses from the East Perth bridge to the CBD.

I had breakfast in East Perth. It is fantastic medium density urban renewal. A really impressive effort for a city that is a honking disaster in a lot of ways. You are right, the area needs a bit more bars cafes and eats but it won't take long for someone to capitalise on the footy crowd.

Lots of Perth people I spokr to complained that the oval will be out of the way. But I understand there will be a train station right there. Plus parking plus the footbridge. Access looks pretty good to me.

22 games a year, 365 days is 100%, capitalise on a crowd for 6% of the available days - go for it !

Had a poke around the site on Saturday. A bit of water pumping going on after some heavy rain.

Good location there and the footbridge planned from east Perth will make for a fantastic journey to the footy. Perth in general seems to have a lot of construction going on.

Perth is going to be awesome for people who are still kids right now
Elizabeth Quay, Northbridge Link, Burswood precinct in 2030 won't be dullsville

I for one applaud our Liberal overlords

Would you open a business based on pulling a crowd for 6% of the trading days ?
Who would? Not sure what you are on about but my observation was only that the footy crowd and the cricket etc crowds will provide a boost for an emerging area.

I'm not sure why you and so many Perth people are so negative about the stadium and its location. The cafe owner where I had breakfast said that local residents in East Perth were against it because it would mean hordes of people walking past their house. If you live in the inner city that just comes with the territory. The footbridge is a fantastic idea.

I think you are right about that. It is a pity that the plans for light rail seem to have evaporated though. Seems like such a car based city could really benefit. Anyway I'm getting off the topic of stadiums now.

Not negative about the stadium location at all.
On the 22 days a year footy is played it will be cream for local businesses Shorty on the other 300+ days its not a factor.

I moved into East Perth in 1999/2000 thinking I would be there for 2- 3 years whilst I finished my second degree. I ended up staying there for 14 years as it was an amazing place to live.

My only complaint about the redevelopment was, in hindsight, the density around claisebrook cove was too light. Back in 2000, it looked crazy dense but in 2015 it looks to light to support great bars and restaurants. No doubt the footy oval will change that, as it did to subi.

people are creatures of habit. They will go on non-footy days out of habit.

A pub should be built near the stadium and run a similar operation to the punt rd one. Great atmosphere for Richmond home games. Even opposition supporters head there. A small amount. They play the theme song have dancing girls. Call it ' the dockers hotel' or 'the eagles bar'. Or just a neutral name and rotate from team to team each week. Would make a killin

Currently working on the steel fabrication for the the Perth Stadium, The standard for the steel work is actually quite alot higher than i would've thought, I think deadline wise it is going to cut pretty fine but at the moment it is tracking well, 50% of the steel work will be fabricated and finished around mid November.

An alternative to naming rights:
The Barnett Government is set to announce a commercial partnership with BHP Billiton that would give the global mining giant naming rights to the precinct surrounding the new Perth Stadium
Amid finals fever, with Fremantle and West Coast finishing atop the AFL ladder and hosting home finals this weekend, it is believed the Government will today announce details of the arrangement.
Last month Premier Colin Barnett said the 60,000-seat, $1.4 billion arena at Burswood would be formally known as Perth Stadium, in part to capitalise on the tourism value for Perth and WA attached to the name.

& a couple of other relevant bits of info:
There are also two major sets of negotiations under way that are critical to the stadium’s business model.
  • One is talks between the Government and the stadium’s major users — Fremantle, West Coast and the WA Cricket Association — over how much they will pay to use the venue and how revenue will be split.
  • The other is the tender process to appoint a stadium operator, with bidders Perth Stadium Management (WA Football Commission, Ticketmaster, Live Nation and Delaware North), Nationwide Venue Management (Spotless), AEG Ogden and Stadium Australia Operations to learn their fate of their bid early next year.
