Agree with others re playing him ahead of Naismith, particularly with us in full rebuild mode.
He’s going to disappoint at times though, so be prepared for some average performances.
Plenty have mentioned his strength needing improvement but endurance is just as big an issue. You can see his...
Can see why Smilie is so highly rated, he’s a a great size, to roll through the midfield or be a tough match up in the f50
So we’d have to really stink it up to be a chance to snag him ie continue our current form.
Good player, tough as nails, nice left foot, leadership qualities. Has the size to be an AFL mid (189 94kg) .
Probably overlooked due to lack of leg speed and while getting good numbers, doesn’t get huge numbers in the midfield.
Played across hb yesterday was very good
Big improvement last night
Actually won clearances against very good opposition.
Like some others I’m not sold on him, but credit where credits due, well played
Last night was a tick for a guy with plenty of crosses
Can he play with that work rate and commitment on a more regular basis?
Still have my doubts, but happy to see change on both the wings. Let’s find out if we’ve got the player/s to play what’s a pretty tough role
Soft cap TI !!!
Can’t p!ss them off when they are still contracted. Well you can, but their salaries ( or a % ) are included in the cap .
AFL love a fair and equitable competition 😄
Probably would have got more last year at the trade table than we’d get this year if he was to leave as a FA.
But I’d hate to be the list manager, that traded out one of our all time greats
That’s true, Bolton, Dusty, , Lefau, maybe a couple from our small forwards. We’ll have to scrap goals.
But if you let Gawn put it down the throat of Petracca, Oliver and Viney all night the ball won’t get into our f50.
I think Nank while still playing ruck will play forward a bit more. Can’t see any other reason you’d play Naismith infront of Ryan, unless you wanted to nullify Gawns ruck work. Naismith ain’t a forwards a’hole. I know Nank isn’t great forward either, but think 2 rucks is more about trying to...
Maybe Nank plays more forward minutes, with Naismith in.
Nank has always struggled with Gawns height.
Nank and Lefau forward, hopefully at least bring the ball to the ground and don’t let May and Lever intercept everything
We’ve got to try and identify our next wingmen, but not sure who on our list is next in line.
I don’t rate HRS, Banks is not ready, Clarke injured.
Ross is injured.
Maybe Smith? But he’s just finding his feet as a small defender, it’d be a tough first up gig for a guy that’s really only in his...
Banks and HRS playing. No McAullife.
Just don’t get it!!
Must have Pickett playing a forward role, given we’ve picked 4 wingers .
Have no issues re Naismiths selection. His form has been outstanding, and you can’t let Gawn dominate hitouts to their midfield
State and federal Government’s should be fitting part ofthe increase
Why? because when they committed to this project, they were committing to a % of the project. Building materials etc have increased by 60% , so should their funding
Well that’s how I’m looking at it through one yellow and one...
Unbloodybelievable!!
Was watching ch7 News when the great man Benny Gale, gave his update. The ground to be the same size as the G and incredible facilities!!!
I’m personally pumped because will love watching the VFL there.
And It’ll also be a real selling point for attracting players and sponsors
The extra $ to move, probably points towards him staying or retiring
As the article points out GC could use that $ on their gun kids. Sydney teams looking at longer term contracts to backend/ spread his salary
Jasper Scaife is considerably bigger than last listing 85kg. If you watch his highlights from this year, he’s put on lot of size.
Of course not allowed to publish players weights anymore
Agree with all that. It has the potential to flop. I still think though, if you’ve got the right people calling the shots ie list manager, recruitment team, then you can build dynasty’s on the back of generational talent like Martin. Players have to buy into it, as you mentioned opposition clubs...
There’s plenty of reasons he didn’t want the captaincy, the personal stuff has had a huge affect on him, and prior to that don’t think it interested him. So you can’t force it upon him.
I’d rather he stay a one club player, but if he wanted to finish his career up North, no way I’d begrudge...
that’s definitely a legitimate way to rebuild. Trade into the draft, free up salary space, and use FA to bring in specific needs.
Clarkson successfully pulled it off.
Can also backfire though. You’d want to have confidence that you’re trading into a strong draft, and getting generational...
I suppose it depends on who the buyer is. GC have so much young talent on their list and coming through their academies that they can pay overs, for estabished talent . Particularly Premiership players.
Yeah, how naive of me, of course players are visiting opposition’s facilities, while under contract, this early in the season.
Happens all the time, not sure what I was thinking
