First Monday of October is actually a public holiday in most states (including NSW/QLD/WA/SA) so its more akin to a Saturday night. But no doubt if they played it during the day the figures would be worse.

I'd go with a Darwin team playing a few home games in Alice and Cairns at the 20th. The whole (i.e. an extra game to sell) is worth more than the sum of its parts (the individual teams). Would need significant federal funding though and agree would be most peoples choice after Tassie.
Freo has never won a premiership...I would think if they won one and spend a few years at the top competing they would grow their membership base. But agree with the two huge clubs - if/when the day comes that both Freo and WCE have a waiting list and are turning people away I suppose you could...

I would not be surprised if Foxtel lost quite a few subscribers these past few months. Whilst Thursday nights TV figures were off the charts, interestingly, the fox footy viewers were a touch down against the season opener, also on a Thursday night between Richmond and Carlton.

Wonder if they will test the waters with a night/twilight grand final. That is one area where there may be an increase in the value and therefore price.
A deal to end of 2024 (a 2 year extension) also means a brand new deal can incorporate any extra games that a potential Tasmanian side would add given the recent news of this report urging a Tassie side to enter 2025.

59,721 @ Perth Stadium for SoO last night.
Now hold the record crowd at the venue
Could be a similar situation to Docklands stadium were Rugby League, Union and soccer all hold higher crowds than the best AFL game.
Not sure that really means much but it's something to note.
Nope, any crowd below 10k is subpar. Doesn't matter if it's the 7,832 in Hobart or the 7,243 in Townsville That said, given that more people live in Hobart than Townsville, and Tasmanians are a helluva lot more interested in AFL than Queenslanders, the Hobart crowd was especially disappointing.
Would have thought a close game between two well supported Melbourne teams still in finals contention (just) would have cracked the mill. Makes the Thursday night audience the night before seem all the better.

I think we can safely say 1m+ viewers suggest its a yes and why Thursday night is here to stay. Was listening to the 5AA commentary at the time and they said it was a decent turnout on a cold and wet night (showers were threatening apparently).
Yeah I'd be surprised (hope I'm wrong) that this game will get to the 58k MCC are predicting. Both teams coming off 2 losses - at least one team (hopefully Melbourne) will break their duck.
