Delisted #33: Brayden "Donny" Ham - not offered another contract - 18/10

I think he has the ability / smarts to make it AFL level. He has improved his size considerably over the preseason. He generally runs to the right spots on the ground and seems to make the right decision when he has the football. I can't see why people are so quick to write off a clear project...

Delisted #36: Michael Hartley - Joins Hawthorne via the preseason draft - 29/11

I thought he had a chance to be named last week if we moved Hooker forward. I still wouldn't be against that, considering I felt like we were breaking down going forward.

    AFL Player #35: Matt Guelfi - Out for <insert weeks> with a calf strain - 18/3

I think he has the tools to build a solid career with us. I don't think he'll ever be our best player, but I would much rather have players like him in the side with the right attitude.

Club Mgmt. Bombers look to extend pokies lease

If it's about football's brand image, the AFL should be the ones showing leadership, not individual clubs. Then again, I would love to know how much revenue is created with gambling sponsorship? Both sides of this discussion have great points for and against. It should be taken out of the...

Preview Gold Coast vs Essendon, Carrara, Saturday 14/07/18 @ 7:25 PM

I don't want us to tank and play every single bloke on our list 22 and under. However, we really need to have more of an eye on the future. It will be interesting to see if Francis gets a game, I can't understand how he is in the best 22 at the moment. We really need to find another 2 players...

Coach Mark Neeld leaves Essendon as Game Performance Coach

I find it funny how many people blame individual coaches for the poor performance of the team. Leadership at the club has been poor for 15 plus years and that starts at the very top, above the coach. I wish Mark all the best.

AFL Player # 4: Kyle Langford - AA squad, Leading Goalkicker, McKracken Medal, 2nd in Crichton 🥈

You would rather see players like Langford getting a game, playing in a role, which can actually help us long term. Essendon needs to find two players at a minimum, who can help lead our clearance work for years to come. Hopefully we have players like that on our list already, so playing guys...

    AFL Player #15: Jayden Laverde

Considering this season is pretty much done, blokes like Laverde should be given extended periods in the seniors to see if they are up to it or not He has the right size to play inside and long term that's where I see him playing.

Traded #10: Aaron Francis - Traded to Sydney w. Pick 42 + Future fourth rounder for Pick 37. Thanks Frang!

The bloke's last touch set up the winning goal.

Traded #10: Aaron Francis - Traded to Sydney w. Pick 42 + Future fourth rounder for Pick 37. Thanks Frang!

I hope we don't trade him this year, because I don't believe we would get adequate compensation for his actually ability. Even if he does leave next year, if he can have a good year in the seniors his value will increase. Obviously nothing is guaranteed, but with a good preseason and let him...

Traded #42: Adam Saad - Traded to Carlton for pick 8 (with some junk picks)

Hopefully Ridley can show some promise in the seniors this year, I can't see McNeice being the long term Bags replacement. I wouldn't be surprised if we go after a state league small to mid sized defender in the rookie draft.

Opinion Players who need a big 2018

People are harsh on Gleeson. Credit to the guy, when he gets sent back to the VFL, he actually works on the reason he was dropped. He has improved considerably every year and is now in our best 22. Considering Kelly and McGrath will be leaving the backline, he will become more valuable to us...

Retired # 5: Devon Smith - Hanging up the boots - Thanks for everything Devon! - 12/8

A proven player in and we have only gone back a few spot in the drafts. On face value seems like a win-win deal. He is in the perfect age bracket too for our list. Good work Essendon

Traded #32: Travis Colyer - traded to Freo for future 4th rounder

The fact he didn't play in 2016 and didn't return to his best this year, brings down his value substantially.

Recruiting Trade & Free Agency V

If we did that for Smith. I think Gold Coast would require 23 for Saad.

Traded #32: Travis Colyer - traded to Freo for future 4th rounder

I honestly don't think he would be worth much. He hasn't played good football for over two years.
  17. J

Retired #23: David Myers - Retiring at the end of the season - 20/8

Hopefully he can improve on his output next year. He did have a few good games during the year and considering he had only played 2 games in the last two years previous - playing 15 games is somewhat of a success (3rd highest in his career). With a good preseason I'm confident he can get...

Analysis Midfield, Ruck and On-ball - A bull and some class? Depth ruck?

If you watch the games live or at home or even just look at the numbers we are one of the worst sides in the competition for clearances, contested football and tackles. It something we have to address in the off-season regardless of how we play.

Analysis Midfield, Ruck and On-ball - A bull and some class? Depth ruck?

IMO are clearly lacking two big inside midfielders. I know everyone talks about 'pace' but our inside work has been poor for most of the year. You would imagine the club would be hopeful Lav and Langford would take those two positions up next year. A Rockliff would improve our midfield quite...

Preview Essendon vs Geelong, MCG, Saturday 13/05/17 @ 7:25 PM AEST, Country Game

He did kick 5 in half (VFL practice match) a month ago. I think he can offer more versatility to our team than Green. http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/2017-04-11/merretts-move-forward

Preview Essendon vs Geelong, MCG, Saturday 13/05/17 @ 7:25 PM AEST, Country Game

I think there will be a few changes to the side due to fitness. I'ld bring in McGrath into the side for someone who needs a rest eg Colyer. I actually would like to see Mutch come in for Zaha to make a statement. I also would like to see J Merrett to come in for Green. Even Stewart in for...

Retired #23: David Myers - Retiring at the end of the season - 20/8

If Myers isn't playing in the midfield, he shouldn't be playing

Recruiting Trade/Draft Talk III - Zaharakis for a SIG BET?

Our list is pretty poor and would be a waste to bring him in for a high pick. We need good young talent and we have plenty (too many IMO) senior players to help guide them.

Recruiting List Development 2017 - How do we develop our list?

Losing players like Carlisle, Hibberd and Ryder and not having access to early draft picks has put us back. I don't think the club went too overboard with mature players and the has invested in youth. Cooney was probably the only player we gave up a half decent pick for that I can think of off...

Recruiting List Development 2017 - How do we develop our list?

As fodzilla said I was talking about 2020. I think Brown is a fringe player and would be surprised if he was still playing for us in 2020.

Recruiting List Development 2017 - How do we develop our list?

Here is my break down of the list. Some people will say I'm harsh or too easy on some players I'm sure. The core group of players will be lead by Heppell and Zac Merrett in 2020. We have quite a lot of players who show potential but that doesn't mean they will become AFL standard players in 3...

Recruiting List Development 2017 - How do we develop our list?

I think it's very important that the side has a number of places in the team each week for rookie players. Bomber Thompson did a good job in getting that balance right back in 2014 - where he gave games to Gleeson, both Merretts, Joey, Ashby and Ambrose early in the season and continued it all...

Free Agent # 6: Joe Daniher (part 1)

Jack Riewoldt is on 17 tackles in 4 games. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect more than one in four games

Preview Round 5: Essendon vs Collingwood, Melbourne Cricket Ground, ANZAC Day @ 3:20 PM

McKenna is out, so you would presume Gleeson will be his direct replacement? I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in McNiece if possible. Langford kicked a couple last week but would be the replacement I would make if I was going to bring in Francis. I think structurally Hooker sets us up better...

Preview Adelaide vs Essendon, Adelaide Oval, Saturday 15/04/17 @ 7:40 PM AEST

Zaharakis and Langford would want to put in good efforts this week. I rate both of them but their performances last week were terrible. Would have to be a really good performance this week for us to win. Coming off the showdown, I wouldn't be surprised if we jumped them early.
