Seems as though Sholly thinks he needs to change 110 years of history and wants us to become a comp similar to the VCA, should we accept his changes?

The lower sections have had plenty of name changes in the last 15 years ["if you bothered to get your head out of the clouds!"] It is not an issue at all ............ Suggest you just .... Get Over It! :(

A wise man once told me, "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it will still be a pig."

Might make the guys in lower grades feel better about playing in Division 4, instead of D4, just as D4 made them feel much better than playing in F or G grade.

Not sure if anyone playing below B Grade feels 'bad' by playing at that level. Everyone knows where there at regardless of what the section is called.

I doubt if anyone playing in the newly Division One when asked where the play will respond - in the VAFA in division One. pretty sure the response would be D grade.

I'm not fussed by it.

On the face of it, calling A, B, C sections Premier, Premier B and Premier C seems a little odd, but not a massive deal.

I don't know how this "re-badging" actually lends more prestige to the competition vis-a-vis recruiting. Pretty much every other suburban league works in numbered divisions (save for the EssendonDFL which has just A and B).
Dealing with councils won't get any easier just because your club's competition has changed the way it classes its footy divisions either.

Much ado about nothing if you ask me.

What's going to be Sholly's next pearl of wisdom, allowing clubs to have 5 paid players as in SA? Do us all a favour now Michael and get the far k out of the VAFA, no one likes you, you are a wannabee sports administrator and I KNOW you are reading this.

Brian Goodman should be running the show based on his enormous success with the umpires. Good to see JGH out of hibernation and Scribe, congrats on not toeing the party line for once.

Have enormous respect for those prepared to get on committees and boards, particularly those who do it voluntarily. I have been generally supportive of the recent decisions and direction of the VAFA management but fair dinkum this ‘re-badging’ is an absolute nonsense. What the hell is Premier C?

It was hard enough trying to explain our D sections to those not involved in the VAFA. Now we have 2 Premier divisions that are not actually Premier, a Division 1 that is actually Division 4, Division 2 that is Division 5 and so on…..

What is wrong with calling it as it is? A, B,C, D etc or 1st, 2nd, 3rd ….

Personally I lie somewhere between Rooster and Scribe on this issue - doesn't seem to be either worthwhile or beneficial so why would you bother upsetting the apple cart for the sake it???

What is more worrying than a change of name (to follow the cricket no doubt knowing Sholly's background) is that it reveals where the energy and effort of the VAFA management is - and that's on things that don't contribute 1 bit to the standard or standing of our league in the footy community. And that is something that all VAFA supporters should be most concerned about!!!

Call me old fashion but the VAFA is charged with keeping our league at the forefront of footy in this state and the best way to attract people into the ammos is to:

1. Have quality umpiring that rewards good, clean, hard and skilful footy and penalise/eradicates the thug from the game
2. Have quality grounds/facilities to play at and enjoy
3. Have a tradition and prestige that only comes with generations of footballers all striving for the ultimate success

For the best part, the VAFA does achieve point 1 (although some days you do wonder at times), has a long way to go on point 2 IMO by becoming more involved in a united push for all clubs and by the length of the straight achieves point 3 over our rival leagues. Therefore the effort should be put elsewhere rather than getting new business cards and letterheads printed because we have had a name change!!!

After all the great Allan Jeans had the right approach "you can cook, boil or curry sausages but at the end of the day they are still sausages" and A will always be higher than B which is always higher than C which is etc no matter what they are called!!!

Ah! Nothing I enjoy more than a classic piece of irony;)

Wasn't that Jeff Kennett ?? :D

Not that I'm sticking up for Sholly, but doesn't he just act upon decisions made by the VAFA Board?

I'd assume he doesn't come up with these ideas and roll them out without approval.

I have no complaints with the present administration. What i have got concern about is their lack of foresight in getting away from that cow paddock to a decent playing surface.Example, optus oval, junction oval. Spend some of those huge pool of registration fees.We must lift our profile by playing our top games at a decent venue.Forget about Lexus, lease a decent venue for 30 years and control it properly.
Another idea would be buy a run down suburban ground and upgrade it to a high standard, with a decent club house. We need a modern headquarters owned or securely leased in a central position to be available to all.

Off to a flying start this year with the new sections.

OB thirds gave a walk over. (Due to injuries)

The OB vs OX game will be a treat for both clubs (not)

Now the Club 18 rivalry between OX and Prahran will be lost forever.

Poor move Mr. Sholly
