Not many people know this, however, the Swans have not beaten the
Doggies in Melbourne since 1987.

Over that period of time the doggies have played the Swans 19 times in
Melbourne ( the closest they came was a draw in 1991)

Hopefully the streak continues

This can't be right!?

But when I think about it (my Dad is a Swan so we've gone to almost every Victorian match since I was knee high) - I remember winning many times, as well as a 35-all draw in the slog at WO.

But losing to the Swans ..... could be right

Thanks for jinxing the result this weekend.....

Wrong. That was at the SCG.

We beat you boys round 2 in 1997 by 7 points at Optus Oval.

I remember Wallace saying something about fencing the fans in that game or something!?

Apologies. Your right, I'm wrong.

My work's footy tipping website has a 'Game's history' function and it has those 2 games the wrong way round. After going to the 'All the stats' website, it turns out it was at the S.C.G. afterall.

No worries.

Jeez, it's starting to look like a 23-year streak!!

I remember that. What happened was that in the Herald Sun on the morning of the game. Geoff Poulter did a preview of the game. At the end of the article he said that the attendence and standard of the game will be so low, they should barricade all the fans in so that they cannot get out.

Anyway, after we won, Wallace does his press conference and absolutely goes off his tree at Poulter. One of the greatest sprays of all time. And to Poulters credit, he starts arguing back. So you have Wallace and Poulter abusing the hell out of each other in the press conference.

I was thinking at the time, wow this will make the main news of the day. 20 minutes later Malcolm Blight did his press conference of Adelaides match, and released his barrage with his famous "Pathetic Pittman" speech. So that became the story of the day/week rather and Wallaces rant was forgotten about.

Ugh - you know we broke Collingwood's losing streak of finals vs Victorian based sides last week - going since the GF, 1990!

I am interested to note we actually have a positive win/loss overall record vs Sydney/ South Melbourne over the years. That must be one of the few ex-VFL teams we do have that over...

That's a great memory you have. :thumbsu:

And to the previous poster, yes Darcy kicked a goal after the siren to make it seven points. We had to come from behind to win it. We opened that season with three nail-biters in the opening four games. Wasn't good for the nerves.

23 years and counting - one of the better stats around.

Yes, until 2012 at least. Unless we play the Swans in a Melbourne final next year ...

Remarkable stat that has escaped the media this week.
