Good signs re: Grant putting on weight. 3kgs isn't much overall but will make a difference for such a skinny guy.

Hopefully Jones can come on more. At the moment his marking is the only thing stopping him from being average.

On the money about Grant. He is listed on wiki at 82kgs - which is underweight even if it is to maintain his quickness.

That's harsh on Jonesy though. He is 21 in February, and last year (which was effectively his second season), he took 96 marks in 20 games. Nick Riewoldt took 154 last year in two more games, so Jones is definitely developing well. Just needs a bigger tank and he will be super impressive.

What I love from the article is this:

Grant, 21, said every Bulldogs forward learnt from watching and attempting to emulate Hall in his two years at Whitten Oval.

"I couldn't praise him enough. He was my favourite bloke who has come through the club and he's been a big influence on myself and Jonesy," Grant said.

"It's a big challenge for us to take the next step and help the forward line."

BBBH was such a great get for our club, not only for his goal output but for the mentality it seems he has instilled into the likes of Grant, Jones and Panos. What a champion.

A lot rests on these guys shoulders this year. If they can develop enough to fill the void left by Hall then we should probably make the 8 with a good run with injuries.

Either way it'll be good to see them given a crack as the main target.

Pretty harsh on Jones, his contested marking is very, very good but what goes under the radar is his forward pressure, he never really mopes around and his always looking to win the ball back.

I do admit his disposal needs touching up and his kicking for goal isn't always brilliant so there are areas he does need work but I think the kids going to be a hell of a player if he can get his disposal up to scratch and add a few more kg's.

Jones is a very good contested mark and yes his kicking isnt always good but that comes with experience. From what I saw this season I think Jones is going the right way. As Gus said Grant has gained 3kg and thats good for a player like him. Hopefully next season Grant and Jones can have a big affect in the forward line for the Dogs. Jones and Grant are in for a big 2012 and Im looking forward to seeing how Panos fairs as well. Hopefully the Dogs can make a return to the top 8.

It's great that Grant has put on weight. 3kg's is quite a bit if it is lean muscle mass. Anyone can put on 3kg's in a week sitting around eating chips, but 3kg's of good clean bulk is quite good so far. If he could somehow put on another 2 by the start of the season without it effecting his running too much that would be pretty awesome.

He wasn't a real focal point until he strung a few really good games together the season before last.
Then last season other teams took notice and didn't give him an easy a run to the ball, so something as simple as getting pushed off the ball or out of contests all together has become more apparent.

I'll never forget the one time I saw them rotate Grant through the middle against Geelong and he got absoloutlely polaxed by Josh Hunt. Sure, most players would go down after getting hit by him, but Grant took an eternity to get up and ended up having to be assisted to the bench. Poor kid could hardly breath.
