he is soooo underated compared to thomas n from wat iv seen on tv of him, he looks like he wil b da nxt dal santo for sure!:D (him or x.ellis)
not sayin thomas is bad but im jst sayin il prefer prendlebury over thomas

n no sh** i dont realy like collingwood players (understanderble, bein carlton suporta) but man i wud want pendlebury over j.kennedy, even though we need kennedy more!! ;)

I never thought I would say this to a Carlton supporter but your alright.

Back on topic.
Pendles has had a great pre season and I am really looking forward to seeing him play in the home and away season. He has showed very good form during all practise matches and also in our round 1 nab cup clash against the kangaroos. He was one of Collingwoods best that night and showed he will be a great player for the Collingwood football club in the future

Re: Thread title, Thank you for stating the obvious!

How come opposition supporters rate Pendlebury higher than Thomas?
Thomas showed more promise last year and he didn't look "out in the cold" when he got his opportunities in the seniors. Whereas Pendlebury was up and down and was never near as consistent as Dale Thomas.
Personally, I want both of them to become superstars in their own right, but I'm confused at to why Pendlebury will be better than Thomas.

I rate Pendlebury higher than Thomas. Well in terms of potential. Thomas has a tone of X-Factor, but what Pendlebury has got is unique and above what 90% of the players in the AFL can do. People say he is Dal Santo-esque which is true, but I also see a bit of Robert Harvey in him in the way he can step around oponents.

People have a perception that Dale Thomas is an inconsistent half-forward, and that Pendlebury is a more consistent midfielder.

Dale Thomas seems more consistent to me though.

Thomas has been more consistant and better in his career and I don't belong to the whole "Thomas is just a small forward" camp. I think Thomas has heaps of midfield potential, and won't be just as inconsistant match winner. But Pendlebury is special. IMO the best youngster since probably Fraser at our club. Didak is also up there but like Didak and Fraser he does things he shouldn't be able to.

think it has to do with Thomas being the poster boy of Collingwood, getting on before the game, taking the big marks, kicking big goals, the silly hair, the sort of arrogance that he already belongs in the big time gets up oppo supporters noses

then there is pendles who had a quiet first year, didn't do anything too special, except for the steal against the swans, and isn't in the papers etc.

almost similar to t.cloke and rusling, u will get a few oppo supporters who rate rusling, but hardly any rate cloke, just because cloke is a higher profile

I rate Dale Thomas more then Scott Pendlebury. Even if I think Pendles is future star.

Thomas, in 4-5 years, after bulking up, will be more versatile then Pendles and can be played across half back, at full forward, even as a James Hird-ish (in his prime) CHF. He will also be a very consistent midfielder if played there.
Pendles will be a full-time midfielder. How good? Will remain to be seen.
But Dale Thomas's star has already started to shine and we know that we have a champion in the making.

I rate them both on par. They both bring their own important quality. Each team needs one of either. Thomas has the X-Factor and ability to make you stand on your feet, and Pendlebury has the cruise control effect where he wins the ball and makes opposition players look slow around him. Pretty hard to compare 2 players who play different styles. There ain't many players goin around that bring what Thomas brings.

I think they both have the potential to become future champions of Collingwood, however i've seen Pendlebury do things that most players at their peak can't do.

Then again, Thomas did take two absolute hangers in his first year.

Sorry I am over 30, can someone please decode this for me. I have no idea what it says.

Sure - I can do that.

Guys, I am a Carlton supporter, and to be honest, I believe that Scott Pendlebury is a gun - Perhaps even better than Dale Thomas.

He hasn't received as much attention as Dale Thomas, and from what I've seen of him on TV, he looks like he could be the next Nick Dal Santo (much as Xavier Ellis could be similar).

That's not to say that I don't believe Thomas is a good player, but I am just saying that if I had to choose, I would probably go with Pendlebury over Thomas.

Now, as a Carlton supporter, it is understandable that I don't tend to like Collingwood players all that much, but I would have preferred my club to select Scott Pendlebury at #4 in the 2005 draft rather than Josh Kennedy, despite the fact that Josh Kennedy filled a greater need.

It's actually quite a reasonable post when you figure out what language he is speaking.

Pendlebury will be a very good player I think . He has intangibles and qualitys that just can't be taught .

I'm not just saying that because it's true , I'm saying it because I'm biased as well .

Dale Thomas seems more consistent to me though.

Can't agree with that.

Pendles probably had a better year than Daisy last year, despite having only played 1 season of TAC cup (and no footy for 4 years before that) and having his preseason ruined by glandular fever. Was in the best in almost every Williamstown game he played.

Daisy played more senior games, but it's much easier to break into a side as a small forward than as a genuine midfielder (even if the midfield is as old and slow and underskilled as ours).

not yet but definately has all the attributes to make it at the higest level. that doesnt necessarily he will make.

???

that is a bit silly

D.Thomas slotted right into the senior team, after M.Murphy at Carlton he prob had the next best debut year of the 2005 draft bunch, whilst pendles had an interupted pre-season and was fairly quiet in the senior games he played

playing well at williamstown is all well and good but it doesn't equate with good senior performances

Thomas was rushed back into the senior team for the final after injury, think that sums up how good a first year thomas had

There is no doubting the fact that Pendlebury has great skills and composure but the reality is that the kid has a pea heart (as witnessed at Hawthorn V Collingwood) at the G last year. With guys like Lonie in your side you need as many hard palyers as you can get

Both Pendles and Thomas are on track for great careers at the elite level. I believe that it is too early to be picking one over the other at this point in time. Both players bring something different to the club and so will be played in different positions. I'm just glad that thy're on our side and look forward to seeing them control the midfield in years to come with players like the Shaw brothers, Swan, Johnson, Clarke and Scott Reed, who we get as a NSW rookie in this years draft. He is the only NSW kid in the AIS/AFL program this year so it is a great get.

I think we worked out that Scott Reed will still be too young to be taken in the draft this year, it will have to be in 2008.
