Is Drew Petrie a cardboard cut-out?

He's gone from bad to worse pretty much each round this year.

Hard call for the DVC - but time for a run at Port to find form. I'd bring Hale in for him next week.

Cardboard cut out ....pfffft !

Troll all you like you dropkicks. Petrie puts in his share and if that 'game defining tackle in the last quarter' was what seperates him from playing in a North jumper then a Port jumper...I'll take that every week.

Don't confuse him with the other bloke who is REALLY STRUGGLING.

As for cardboard cut outs ?

try the Essendon coaching box......who in thier right mind would play so negative when thier team needs that 'fightback' in a even balanced game to leave Jimmy Hird in the backline (on Rawlings)
 Pffffft !

Mark Bolton took him to the cleaners.....MARK BOLTON

Drew has more talent in his left nut than Mark Bolton and he should be ashamed of his performance.

Fair call confidence is absolutely shot... but like woodson said the boy never stopped trying... but a week or two at Port may do him the world of good...

I'm very happy to have him, not matter what you guys say.
He might not be in his best form, but gave a good contest in the ruck and made a crucial tackle.
He will only get better and definitely boasts leadership qualities.

99.99% of the time I agree with you Rooboy96, But, good players
can't find form in the seconds in my opinion.
Not that my opinion means FA.
Cheers,
Fogarty.:)

The Velvet Sledgehammer (M.Lloyd) who averages about 5-6 goals a game vs North in previous meetings can't say he won his position could he ??

Shannon Watt took him to the cleaners .......WHO ?? no, not WHO ? WATT !!! ;) :p

Drew has had a very forgettable 2004. In a couple of games he has got to the ball but he must be taking reading the play lessons from McKernan because he isn't getting to the ball and isnt presenting a viable target up forward.

He has a lot of potential, just having a very bad year.

Who knows, he may be able to turn things around. Having our two young ruck/forawds injure themselves AND McKernan giving us nothing has not really left us with a lot of options.

I'm sure he will come good... I hope. :p

At least Watt has some ability. Bolton is **** on a bull.

Heck, that makes perfect sense to me Fogarty.

Seriously.

your opinion here is my belief also.

Petrie is quite possibly the biggest dissapointment of a player this season.

i predicted before the season he'd step up and go from a good up and coming CHF to being the third best behind Tredrea and Brown, and show that he could very well join them at the top of the class one day.

But he's gone backwards this year. confidence is completely shot.

I think clubs should use their reserves or VFL clubs to greater use... what would it hurt for Drew to spend a week or two at Port... murder a hack or two... and return to seniors full of confidence... also it give Hale a game in the seniors... but then who am I... I could be wrong... but then only to a fellow North boy...

That's right Rooboy96, like me your only a fellow North boy, but at least your not a smart arse.:)

That's what happens when you try to turn backup ruckman into key forwards. They just can't deliver often enough. McKernan, Ottens, Thompson are examples as natural ruckmen who were turned into key forwards by desperate clubs, only to stagnate. The same is happening to Petrie.

I generally like the way he plays, and think he's a great talent.
But last night he was never where the ball was.
I wondered if in fact he was playing ?

I rate Petrie as a good player.

Meh. Mckernan ,Ottens and Thompson are pretty good ruckman though.Petrie can't even do that. Good to see the commentators finnally recognising the most over rated player in the league.

Go to a live game and watch what the guy does off the ball. For someone of his size, works his absolute ass off. Not much of it makes TV or a stats sheet, but last night that chase on Johnson was a clear example.

I agree he is having problems finding the nut right now, but I have no problem with his work ethic.

I started a thread about him a few weeks ago. Really disappointing this year.

To his credit though, he still shows some desperation with his tackling, at times.

Quite a few of my roo supporter mates say that too Benono 87 ,but to me thats an easy fall back position when anyone critisizes a player you rate. 1%ers can only take your so far. Any VFL player can "provide a contest".He's a KPP player who was touted as a 10 year gun.His job is to be taking 6 or 7 contested marks front and square every game. Why do Kangaroos supporters find it so hard to critisize one of their players who is obviously not meeting expectations?

Had a shocking first half and fought back a bit in the 2nd.

Has had a poor season.

Whats worse is that a few of his (which can be loosely described as) efforts were very un petrie like and very un north melbourne like.

His fight back in the 2nd half was a lot better, particularly the chase and tackle that lead to the Harding goal shows that even if the switch is off, the power is still connected.
