Dream Team Leagues

I am taking over the organisation of the Dream Team Leagues competition.

Rota69 has done a superb job in 2008 and I'd like to thank him for his assistance.

I feel it necessary to take over now to ensure that there is no question of impropriety. I want it obvious that all decisions are made to ensure the coaches are placed in leagues without bias other than to provide the best competition and best results for BigFooty.

My current plan is to set up a div 1 league and send out invitations.
Those who answer promptly will be included and a second set of invitations sent out if necessary.

I will lock this thread and open it again once I have done some sorting.

I have no objection to Rota69 filling a position in our leagues, he will be offered a spot where I see is fair.

Those who are interested in becoming the league captain will be asked to provide weekly updates in our leagues thread. This is a fair amount of extra work. If you are chosen as Captain and fulfill the role, you will receive a platinum membership package as a reward (after the season ends).

Oh No - I've hit a major glitch.
Now that the 2009 AFL Dream Team opened, the 2008 links no longer work

So if you all will bear with me, I will proceed to list all the prospective coaches that I can - then I will list those that I need more information on and ask for your assistance

This listing of the posters interested in joining who did not play in last year's competition is still a work in progress.
If your name is not here, I probably haven't got to it yet.

My plan is to tabulate everything so that it is all plain to see.

I will have 2 complete lists:

1) 2008 BigFooty Leagues participants

2) Everyone else who has shown an interest in playing in the leagues

I want to show loyalty to those who played in last year's comp, but at the same time I dont want to weaken our leagues by omitting DT geniuses, so I am trying to blend both.

I have in mind offerring the first ten spots to the best ten from last year's BigFooty DT competition. Then after gaining confirmations back, the next six spots might be offered to the six best from the new list (unless a coach from the 2008 BF DT Comp is better credentialled).

This is my proposal at this stage, I will be better able to assess whether this is a fair approach once I have completed my lists.

I will open up a thread HERE for your comments / discussion, so that I can keep this thread relatively uncluttered. Please feel welcome to make suggestions.

Finally apologies about the slowness of this process.
I don't want to miss anyone so I am being as thorough as possible.

i thought I had already registered my interest but don't appear anywhere. I don't have any way to check now as you have said the 2008 stats are gone but from memory I finished around 3300 last year. Team name was Kids and Crocks. Can I get into a league please.

but im a bit sceptical on how things work. Will the top 16 ranked players be in the first league, 17-32 in the second and 33-48 in the 3rd and so on??

and when do we get the code to join the league.

I have no ulterior motive except to get the very best results for our leagues.

I could just rank everyone on last year's result, but last year is just a snapshot of what happened in that year. There are players in those top 40 BF coaches that will reproduce last year's result, some will improve, some will drop in ranking. I can't predict who or what, but I do know that there are several coaches ranked in the top 200 in DT who have reproduced that effort year after year. Some have had their worst year in recent times and finished outside the top 100 or top 50. Some are just learning that they are DT geniuses and are just starting on a run of great results.

Instead of making the decision for them, I was hoping that some of the coaches who know each other from multiple seasons might feel the urge to take charge and create their own league from the wonderful candidates I have put forward.

Both top leagues will be highly competitive within their leagues and I could imagine a real rivalry between the leagues.
They might be competitive with the best that the EDTers can produce as well.
All of these factors will probably produce the best from all involved. That is my hope.

Once the top 2 leagues have been selected, we will use rankings more to select coaches into leagues.
There are still some very talented DTers who have had a bad year and finished outside the top 200, but they will rise to the top given the promotion / demotion system we will set up for next season.
Where scores are similar and one candidate is from a BF league from last year, I will try and favour the BF candidate.
Where scores are similar and one candidate has an exact score given (say 374) by screenshot and the other is just a "I finished in the top 350" I will favour the screenshot provider.

The closure of links from last years comp was a real hinderance for me, so I hope you understand that I have had to make compromises but I still feel that I have been as fair as possible.

I believe the top leagues need to be sorted out first to find out who is left over to be incorporated into BigFooty Div 2 or if we need to promote one or two more from Div 2 in order to fill the leagues with the best available.

I will need captains for each league and they will create the league on the DT site and forward the league code to all their league mates via PM

Each league will have a thread in the Dream Team Leagues board and I will want everyone to confirm their acceptance and give their DT team name so that the Captain can tabulate it for future identification puposes. (you may see a few ?? in the lists I have provided - I just can't find these guys' names).

How do we know what league we are in ??

Im number 92 and this probably means div 6. Hoping for a real solid year so i can move up the rankings, good work Kildonan.

I realise you have done alot of work with the league setup which is time consuming and hard to please everyone. But when you get time could you try and edit the forum a bit putting each thread made into seperate categories as Structure, midfielder, backs, rucks, forwards ect.

Would be greatly appreciated by me but if you dont have the time dont worry. As i realise you have been fully occupied with the league setups.

When I cut and pasted from my Excel spreadsheet, got the message - post too long! so I broke it up into random bits.

I want to get each higher ranked league completed before the next one is started so that those coaches on the borderline aren't mucked around too much.
