Just wanted to let the bigfooty group think ruminate over what fellow Crows believe to be true:

Is Bernie Vince an elite AFL footballer?

5th in the competition for disposals in 2009, nominated in the AA squad and tonight played ****ing amazingly despite being targeted by a couplde of "hard men*"

*soft *****.

He's certainly getting there. I was surprised he didn't end up with more disposals tonight, he seemed to be there at the fall of every centre bounce. Brilliant game.

Almost. Very, very good player, on par with Murphy, Gibbs, Gilbert etc. the 2nd tier players, just below the superstars.

This season he has definitely pushed himself into the top section of players after playing consistently good/great footy over the whole season. Not into the 'elite' space yet but has the potential to over the next year or two.

He is my favourite player outside of Geelong and I've been closely watching him ever since he debuted (06)...no idea why, just liked the look of him. :thumbsu:

elites of 5 years ago

Buckley,Hird,Voss,Harvey

does he compare to them ? No , so no hes not

Elite doesnt mean half the competition, it means a small percent of the top tier of players of the comp.

Elite -The best or most skilled members of a group

Maybe i should post that meaning in my sig since every second poster seems to think they have 15 elite players in their team

Give us your 'elites' of 2009 then.

BTW Murphy's a downhill skier, Gibbs is almost elite, Vince has done more than both of them so far.

Vince IMHO isn't elite but is very, very good.

I wouldn't say "comfortably" than Murphy. With exception to last week, Murph has been great all year

Gibbs has shown tremendous improvement too

But he surely has to be close to elite, and should at least make the AA bench.

If he made the AA bench, he would be very, very lucky. Definitely doesn't deserve a spot.

Gibbs is nowhere near elite

Ablett,Judd,Riewoldt and J Brown

If gibbs is elite , it means hes as good as the likes of those players. Truth is he isnt, you wouldnt pick any of those players behind Gibbs or Vince.

If both of those are elite you are pretty much saying each team has five to ten elite players in their team alone, pretty broad label really. Term A grader should be used more if anything.

he's better than gibbs and murphy.

bordering on elite.

has comfortably had a better season then both.

Gibbs i probably can agree with, just (better season) but Murphy has had a better year than Vince.

Stats wise there is almost nothing between Gibbs and Vince. Both finished on 597 touches with marks, goals and disposal efficiency all very similar, though Gibbs' tackles and inside 50's are far superior. Saying that though Vince's year has been much more consistent and deserves his All-Australian nomination (but i wouldn't think he'd get into the 22).

Vince is ranked 6th in the AFL this year for possessions. He is also highly ranked in the champion data ranks with a high kicking efficiency % (one of the highest of the top 10 possession getters)

Has kicked 13 goals, not sure how many goal assists, but i am sure it would be up there. To say he "definitely" doesn't deserve a spot is just plain naive. Has had a great year and is most deserving of a spot

You'll notice that I didn't actually call Vince or Gibbs elite but it wouldn't surprise me if they are in 2-3 years. I should have worded that better the first time. I agree with your 'elites' but I would possibly include Franklin. If Franklin had played for St Kilda or Brisbane this season he would have kicked 100+ it's just that our midfield was terribly flat this season.

I'm glad your not one of those pies fans that likes to call Swan and Didak elite!
