Hey just wondering whether I can get some help.

My data is being used up rapidly quickly and I don't really know why.

I've used 16gb in 11 days supposedly. The thing is, I've supposedly used 450mb today when I haven't touched my computer (It was off) and my mum only using her comp for Facebook and banking.

Anyone got any idea what it could be? I've gotta try and not use 9gb in 20 days, but with this magic data usage eating up my downloads it's unlikely.

Thanks.

totally do a hard reset on the router and basically reinstall again, have you DL any movies and or music lately as you "might" be still uploading it (if uploads are counted) if you have WiFi it may be being used by your neighbors...

Are you sure about that?

Yeah I asked her. Utorrent has been turned off so I'm not sure. Yesterday only 50mb was used but today there has already been 140mb used and I've been at school. Might try the reset thing tonight.

My wifi is locked but it us a predictable code. But the wifi can barely reach the other end of the house so I dont know how neighbors could using it.

A neighbour with a simple external wireless adapter with a high gain aerial attached will be able to pick it up.

Change the password on your router and under security type choose WPA or WPA2. Dont use WEP, on a good day it takes 2 minutes to crack a WEP wireless password, on a bad day it takes 5 minutes.

Also when using WPA security choose a long password and mix letters, numbers and capitals. WPA is crackable, but it has to be done by brute force using a dictionary file, where the cracker will typically be checking about 2000 passwords a second, so just using a standard word isnt very secure.

On your router settings pages, there should be something listed that shows a DHCP client list, there should be only 2 computers listed, yours and your mums, if theres more then someones using your internet.

You probably have a virus, happened to a mates computer where his internet was being used up when he wasn't even downloading anything. Some form of hack or something like that.

Have you considered the possibility that your house is haunted by ghosts who download large amounts of music and pornography?

Same sort of thing happening to me.. have recently got a PS3 and playing COD online a bit (An hour or two a day, some less, some more) and are going through a bit of downloads..

anyone know how much doing this takes up?

No one was home today but 1gb was used...

Got search and destroy running and it turns out I had a fair few viruses and it turns out there was a keylogger.

In the process of deleting it.

But if you do that I wont be able to steal your internet...And to think I was 87% through downloading DP Gape-o-rama Creampies 17.
