I dont think Pears and Riemers would get laughed at that hard look at Josh Hill was always injured for the Dogs now hes playing really well for West Coast they might not have a choice if gaff wants to go like Caddy did

Only reason i would say Monfries and Pears is clubs love when trades are coming home for some reason
the extra part of the deal i couldnt say what but is it stupid to say give all our trades up this year for deals for elite midfielders?

It would get laughed at, one bloke who has reached his level and can not get a grip on playing zone and another bloke who has not played any good footy for 2 1/2 years.
The whole Gaff wanting to go home was rubbish anyway. From what i hear he is more than happy where he is.

What are peoples thoughts on Jayden Post (Richmond)?

Second round pick from a few seasons ago, maybe 4 years, 5 years ago now..

The few times I have seen him he does lack a little bit of polish and looks a little indecisve at times.

He does not lack courage and will have a dip..

No more poor kicks who make bad decisions in defense . We already turn the footy over too much.

Troy Chaplin? Has he been discussed?

he has his own thread.

posted this on another thread, what does everybody think of this as a potential deal?
GC get Tippet, Lonergan
EFC get Caddy, Henderson
AFC get GC 2nd rounder, Hooker, Gorringe, Ess 2nd rounder

anyone rate henderson as highly as i do?

GC lose Caddy, Gorringe and a second rounder, for Tippet and his sore head?

Josh Toy looks like he is now up for grabs, definitely coming back to Victoria...he hasn't played a lot this year but from memory would have been #1 pick instead of Swallow?

Is he an upgrade on Caddy?

He's an upgrade on Alvey maybe.

We talk and talk about going shopping but we have much less currency than any of the other prospective buyers. Talk it up as much as you want, we're not going to beat ANYONE in a bidding war.

I'll re-iterate... our first effective pick is after at least one of everybody else's.
Dees will have 4 picks before we start.
Dogs, Brisbane & GWS 3.
Everyone else below us will have two.
Everyone above us will have one.

Very little chance of getting Caddy. Or Boak. Or Gaff. Or Shuey. Or anyone.

Posted similar somewhere earlier in the thread. We simply don't have the bargaining chips this season so will likely do bugger all at the trade table and continue to build our list via the draft.

This is gonna be a very Essendon trade period.

Yeah it will be.

Customary talk about who we are targeting, followed by the club being unwilling to give up anything of value. End result, we end up doing **** all.

Then we get Chapman, Moloney and Foley on the last day of free agency, and swap Caddy for Dyson + 3rd rounder and we all live happily ever after.

... still adding some very good young talent to the list, without losing anyone of note, which is then proclaimed by all & sundry as a massive failure.

but.... but.... we still have Dyson, Reimers, Monfries and our 4th round draft pick, yet we somehow didn't claim Pendlebury and Franklin.

Trading failure is massive trading failure

Peoples, almost every premiership side of the last decade has traded well to top up an existing core. At some point we have to back our list in, and plug some existing holes instead of always 'building for the future'.

We need some midfield quality; it's time to go out and get some.

With what? The Bellchambers/Ryder suggestion was laughed off the board by many. Pears value will have dipped this season, and I would be flabbergasted if the club got rid of Hooker.

Next season we will have a number 1 draft pick and hopefully kids like Browne, Kav etc seriously pushing our more experienced guys for a position.

I'd say next year is the time to go out and get some, unless we can do a "Tony Delaney and Todd Ridley to Freo for draft picks to snare us Lloyd and Lucas" type scenario this year.

We're still in the "building a core of a premiership list" phase. Surely people can see this?
We won't trade (significantly) until a large-ish bunch of our kids come through at the same time and push out some decent players.

so josh toy back to melbourne it seems, i'd back TRB (and most importantly fletch) to turn piss into wine, reckon he could be a good get, he has gone backwards this year, but he is still a magnificent kick of the footy

Yeah I'd be more than happy to have Toy on our list. It sounds like it's been more than his football ability that has been the issue up there, and considering his connection to the club prior to drafting, I reckon he just might relish and opportunity at Essendon. Still going after Caddy first and foremost, but Toy would be a nice set of steak knives to throw in, that's for sure.
