Henry, Wilson, Bonner, for Gresh, Coff, JB.

We are well in front.

I was talking about who was available from our current list.

Of Gresh, Coff, JB only Gresh played in our last game against the Cats.

Howard missed. Cordy played. No Jones either. Overall in that game we had a pretty decent team.

Sincs, Windy and Butler all played. So it is really more Henry, Wilson, Bonner, Stocker, Jones?, Byrnes? for Gresh, Sincs, Windy, Clark, Webster and Butler. Overall that to me makes us a bit weaker than last time.

Cats are similar, but are probably just a bit better and most likely in better shape than they were then.

Plus we are at KP rather than Marvel.

The whole team has been practising the "RL" plan.
Overall that makes us stronger than last time.

Also you are treating player talent as fixed commodities rather than variables..
A lot of our younger players could be stepping up this year ( especially at the start of the season ).

Rhys Stanley, Zach Tuohy, Mitch Duncan, Tom Hawkins, Patrick Dangerfield , Mark Bliclavs unlikely to be better this year than they were in previous years.

On the other hand , round one is a bad time to play those guys, before the ache in their bones gets too much, and the lumbago and arthritis set in.

As variables.

While I would agree, they were mostly in a poor form run when we last played them. So they may be better than at that point in time. (Variable).

I am looking at the two likely selected teams. Stanley missed last time. They played Neale who did little. Not often that St Kilda wins the HOs 31 to 14.

By the time we played the Cat's they were in a mess. Hopefully they will still be, but I would suspect that they will be in much better nic and mindframe than when we last played them.

But let us hope that all their older players have fallen over the cliff, rather than have freshened up. This at present is a huge unknown variable.

Club update on Wood
WOOD INJURY UPDATE

Mason Wood will undergo surgery in the next 24 hours following a confronting incident in last night’s win against Collingwood.

The 30-year-old was stretchered from the ground after colliding mid-air with teammate Zaine Cordy in the first quarter of the game.

Wood received a concussion as a result of the clash, but will now also undergo surgery to repair a broken collarbone.

“Obviously you’d prefer your players not get injured at all, but considering the angle and way Mason landed, we could’ve been dealing with something far more serious,” EGM Football David Misson said.

“Mason’s set for surgery in the next few hours, which is a great start. He’ll now get his rehab started pretty much straight away.

“We’ll have a better idea of a return to play timeline after his initial recovery from surgery - we think it’ll be around the 6-week mark, but we’ll be able to provide a clearer picture early next week.

“If we know anything about Mase it’s that he’s extremely diligent and professional in how he looks after his body, so we know he’ll be doing everything he can to get right and be back on the field as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, Liam Henry will undergo a scan to assess some hamstring tightness.

“We took Liam out of the game towards the end as a precaution,” Misson said.

“We’ll provide a further update once we have those results back.”

The club’s full injury update will be posted on saints.com.au on Tuesday.

Club update on Henry
LIAM HENRY INJURY UPDATE

Liam Henry will miss a minimum of six weeks after scans today revealed a high-grade left hamstring strain.

Henry, who was one of St Kilda’s best players in last night’s win over Collingwood, sat out the final minutes of the game with suspected severe cramp, however further assessment revealed a more significant setback.

The latest update follows on from Mason Wood’s concussion and collarbone injury from the opening minutes of Thursday’s match, which will sideline him for a similar period.

“This is obviously a terrible blow for Liam, who has impressed in his first two games at the club,” EGM Football David Misson said.

“Liam’s setback is far greater than we initially thought, especially given he has never had an injury of this type before.

“At this stage, Liam’s return-to-play timeline sits at approximately six to eight weeks.

“The shorter turnaround between games early in the season has presented its challenges, however we have full confidence that Liam will attack his rehab with the same intensity he does on gameday to make himself available as soon as possible.”

St Kilda’s full injury report will be published on saints.com.au on Tuesday.

Do you guys know what is up with Crouch's knee? Is he fit to play and likely to come back in or out for a while?

Not sure but he played half an unspectacular VFL games last week and looks restricted by it still.

Geez we're being boned by injuries again, but it's worth mentioning that only 3 players are out due to soft tissue injuries to the leg.

We have four knee injuries which is a bit concerning but who knows whether any of these were due to training load and conditioning vs unavoidable impact injuries.

Agree to an extent. But its still bloody s**t in the meantime

Soft tissues are always the most concerning because they tend to become chronic.

Broken bones etc. heal up and you usually don't have further issues

yep. It’s pretty brutal.

Would be throwing everything at winning the next 2 games. Accept a loss in round 5 and hopefully a couple are back and ready for round 6
