More info on Mason Shaw:

After such an impressive 2014 which saw Mason knocking on the door of selection throughout the year, 2015 was a massive step backwards which ultimately ended in his delisting at the end of the season. It was injuries again which stopped Mason from showing his best. Mason played just the 10 matches in 2015, many of which were played in the backlines, away from his more natural CHF role. Unfortuantely, he was delisted at the end of the season, after three years on the list.

Shaw may yet crack the 2m mark...

Shaw growing to greater heights

NEW Port Adelaide recruit Mason Shaw says he may crack the two-metre mark - in height.

At 198cm, the former South Fremantle player has been billed as a key forward who could pinch-hit in the ruck.

But while Shaw’s AFL career will take significant work on the track and in the gym, there is no doubt the 18-year-old's size will allow the Power coaching panel flexibility in attack.

Mason making a fist of it

Mason Shaw knows about winning.

Having started junior football as a fifteen year old with junior club Winnacott, Shaw would play in a premiership and swiftly be scooped up to play development football with South Fremantle.

Winnacott only lost one game that year and for Shaw there was no better induction to the game that to win a flag in his first competitive season.

“I started playing football pretty late ... only played one year at Winnacott in the U15s,” he told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“I was fortunate enough that we went through the season and only lost one game and won the flag.

“Winning was an unbelievable feeling even though it was only at juniors.”

It was a good foundation to start his career.

How's he going this year? Would have loved to have seen him in our colours ... Good pickup!

Going ok, unfortunately at South Adelaide who brought in a couple of key forward recruits this year, so he's been stuck behind them playing pretty well in the SANFL reserves. God knows why they took him in the mini draft.

Hopefully he'll be out of there and somewhere where he can get some league experience before any reserves habits kick in, but from all reports seems to have a good attitude.

he played well in the South Reserves and hopefully he will play league very soon .. (if not then we should get him over to Port Magpies)

his stats were
17 kicks 11 marks and kicked 4 goals

here is what was said in the round 10 SANFL Report:-

The club’s only Reserves-level player at the weekend was Mason Shaw, who put in an impressive showing for the Panthers at Alberton on Sunday morning. Shaw kicked four goals for the match and showed form Daniel Healy believes will warrant a League selection soon. “Mason played his best game for the year,” said Healy. “By half-time he’d taken 8 marks, kicked 3 goals and had 12 possessions.
“His movement off the ball, getting behind his defender and presentation and leading was very pleasing. “He looked like a player who was too good for the level and was the dominant player in the match. “With their senior side going down, it’s hopefully a good opportunity for him to press his claim for selection.”

After kicking bags of goals in the SANFL reserves for South Adelaide, Mason Shaw is finally making is SANFL senior debut - at CHF - this Saturday against Norwood.

Last week a lot of us were calling for him to be taken away from South ASAP as they were ruining him by playing him in the reserves despite his good form, and out of position in the ruck (but apparently he had 22 hit outs which is still brilliant). But, he's made it, and one of South's other two key forwards, Eddy, is going back to the reserves.

Wonderful stuff, will be a superstar of the competition.

With butcher's slow development Shaw becomes one of our most important projects.

Will he be ready to debut in 2014? Will he become a specialist forward or a forward/ ruck proposition?

He seems to have all the goods to become something special.

Was a Fan of his Pre-Draft. I thought you had a Bit of a Steal with him.

So wondering how is he going?

Not bad,

Been in and out of the League Team and doing fairly well for what we expected.

Can see him debuting next year imo. Looks like he has a lot of talent.

I look forward to seeing Shaw at full forward for the Magpies (against Norwood) and hopefully he can kick 5 goals

I also hope that he plays a couple of games for the Power this year

it was good to see Shaw kick 6 goals 1 point against WWT over the week end .. hopefully he can kick more and make the Power side soon

What has happened to Mason?

Injuries have hampered him...now he's done for the year with flare up of groin problem

Watching him Sunday, there were a lot of selfish traits to his game. I know there has been the wretched run with injuries this year, but natural instinct to play team first football is not taught, it's an autonomous mindset! I was a BIG believer until I whitnesed Sunday! Happy to bank on Harvey, Howard and Butcher. A little too much Me, Me, Me!

A few posts around here have been very optimistic and similar to those we had, they were not on BF but TPFP when it existed, from posters referring to Damon White as "the great white hope". Some of these came before he had even played an AFL game, some before an SANFL game. He didn't have the shocking injury run that Shaw had and in fact did kick a few goals at AFL level. But he still had problems with injury or may have been able to cement a place. He played 55 games in six seasons and kicked 47.41. Took an average of 6 marks a game, most of them on the lead or otherwise uncontested.

I'm a little skeptical of whether he was omitted with an injury or whether he was told at his exit interview yesterday that he wouldn't be at the club anymore and didn't want to play on at the maggies.

Watching him Saturday was extremely disappointing, mind you he wasn't the only one. Wouldn't surprise me if he's been given the DCM. This might be the wakeup call a few of the developing players need

One of the things that has to be remembered here is that Shaw has had 3 injury-interrupted years on our list. He has played 30 SANFL games only. Although on BF we may feel that makes him a list clogger the coaches may see otherwise. If he can get a full year and the desire and strength that Butcher has shown in these past weeks there is no reason that he cannot step up to AFL. His performance in the QF was extremely disappointing but so were many others. For some reason we had not learnt from the past week and just played the "bomb it in long" game which West countered with ease.

Damon White shattered his ankle in his very first game for the chooks ( ironically against the Maggies at Prospect oval ), I believe the ankle bones had to be fused together and he missed most, if not all of his first season on the Power list.

I can still recall him tearing Corey Ah Chee ( who was the state fullback ) a new one at Alberton a few years later, he was banging them through post high from outside the 50 at the members' end, 2 of his goals were as long as I have seen at Alberton, and I have been going there for a fair while. ;)

Schulz in pre-season of 2014 said Shaw would play AFL that year so he's seen as having talent but how long do you perservere with someone continually injured?

People were once advocating trading Robbie gray saying that exact same line.

Though of course case by case basis... But I'm not sure if port will have a choice mason might not be coming back ?

At least we know mason has talent , just needs to work on his work rate and get his body right ..

Any late round key forward we replace him with is gonna have the same or just a different set of question marks..
