An underrated play I really loved from him was late in the 2nd (edit: 1st) quarter when there was a forward 50 stoppage for the bulldogs. He charged in, got the ball, and won himself a free kick. Made sure we got to half time (edit: QT) with a good lead and not conceding a late goal. He did a lot of stuff that you’re accustomed to him doing but that’s not one of them, and it was really important at the time.

It was the first quarter.

Clever by Ross too to handpass back to Dusty at the boundary.
He saw the best option.
Dusty not only creates the play, he reads the play, the next sequence before anyone else can react to it.
So fast.
When the passage of play appears fast on TV, with multiple camera angles, it would be whizzing past watching at the ground in real time.
The thing is he lifts the entire team.
Opposition teams lose spirit because they have to monitor him the entire time.
He only needs two or three minutes to decide a game, a couple of bursts.

The earlier stack to dusty handball was good too.

I reckon dustys defensive stuff has been really good recently.

Late in Q2. Trapped in the pocket, Martin ignores the easy option to Higgins on the boundary line and instead goes over the top with a left-handed pass to Aarts who has an open goal and duly kicks it.

99 per cent of players would have gone to Higgins.

As fans of the game, we are blessed to be watching this bloke and, obviously, more so that he’s in the yellow sash.

Some good points made by both Nick Riewoldt and Garry Lyons in this article.

Nick Riewoldt and Garry Lyon have played in – and watched – a lot of footy matches over the years. But when Dustin Martin pulled off such a ridiculous kick like he did against Brisbane, the Fox Footy duo were left collectively breathless.
The Richmond superstar produced arguably another best-on-ground performance on Tuesday night, finishing with 24 disposals, four clearances and nine inside 50s.
And the best of those inside 50 entries, which came during the dying stages of the third term, proved Martin is back to his menacing best.
Sprinting along the left wing boundary line with a Lions opponent closing, Martin had to dispose of the ball promptly.
The natural tendency would’ve been to use his non-preferred left foot or simply bomb the ball forward. Instead, Martin calmly assessed his options and used the outside of his right boot to pull off a superb drop punt pass to Jack Higgins inside 50.
Considering the AFL speed and intensity, the degree of difficulty was very high. Yet one of the game’s best players pulled it off.
“You can talk about footy all you like and have your debates and your arguments, but no one does that. No one does that like Dusty,” Lyon told Fox Footy.
“You might get (Bulldog) Caleb Daniel to do it a little bit and go 15m, but that’s what separates him.
“Every time Dustin gets it, you’re a legitimate scoring chance.”
Nick Riewoldt said it’s still “amazing just to be able to sit down and watch him play a full game of footy”.
“You still have moments where it just takes your breath away. That kick on the outside of the foot – he just does stuff other players can’t do,” Riewoldt told Fox Footy.

We may very well not get a better player than this bloke in my lifetime so at the moment it’s just a case of sit back and enjoy it.
Thinking the very same thing...and so soon after Richo retired too...another oncer in a lifetime player pops up! How good is that then...😘

Fans of 17 other clubs are missing out because they just see red when it comes to the Mighty RFC

I saw an interview a while back where Royce did say that Martin was better.
He's probably right, different game and different times but he will be held up there with the very best like Dyer, Hart, Bourke, Bartlett.

Richo deserved this success too.

Must be a good feeling if you're in a 2 v 2 and your teammate in it is Dusty. You could see that coming a mile away, the two lions were always going to go to Dusty leaving Aarts on his own. And Dusty knew it too.
