With a name like that, surely he's made for professional sport in some concern. I can imagine commentators wetting themselves with delight.

I can hear the Yze/Toovey-esque 'Oooooobs' ring around the Gabba with every possie now.

See there's a Bain on list 1.....any relation to David Bain?

..also a Copland....a typo and meant to be Copeland?..

Always hoping:D

Bushy's son Brock is about 5-6 by my reckoning. Not quite ready for senior action. ;)

Why aren't Southern, Tickner and Uebergang on there? They were the standouts in the u16s. Seems strange...
The level 3 squad (which presumably will have those 17 year old next year) not named till early next year. Presumably as they will do preseason with the state 18's squad initially and choose after a couple of months of preseason?

You would imagine that they will be in the third level academy squad that is yet to be named. Would be brilliant if we could pick up a few good young ruck prospects from the academy. Second level guys would be a bit young to be looking at in the next year or two.

Does anyone know whether any of the level 3 Academy guys can be played as top up players in the lions reserves? Would be great if they can, pretty sure Swans do this already.

Is this it? *scratches head*

On the back of changes to the structure of the Under 18 talent program in 2009, AFL Queensland and the Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy recently ran a successful ‘testing & screening’ day for invited 17 – 19 yr olds with over 60 players participating to finalise a ‘development squad’ of players who will now train over summer in preparation for possible selection in the QLD Scorpions State Under 18 Program.

Yes and no.

This year (2011) academy included boys up to 16 (the first age group that will be eligible for preferential drafting from the lions zone). 17 and 18yo in mix for state 18 team did preseason training like this from nov last year essentially run by AFLQ. Brisbane / sunshine coast group trained in Brisbane without any academy imput - gold coast group did have a bit to do with the suns. 6 of best 18 year old prospects did preseason with suns ( including sexton and Allen who they have now listed, and yagmoor who they listed then traded to collingwood last week).

This year the group in mix for state 18's include both those 16yo from this year academy and 17yo who were not in academy. So seems for this group there will be a combined approach between academy and AFLQ, at least for the preseason training over the summer. (with the boys in the gold coast zone doing a similar program on the coast presumably)

Although not clearly stated as yet, it seems that in the new year, once the state 18 team has been selected, there will be a formal 2012 level 3 lions academy squad selected, presumably made up of the 17yo's (only a few of which will make the state team next year, but will make up the bulk of the team the following year - the year they can be preferentially listed by the lions if any good enough)

I suspect will become more clearcut after their first meeting on 31st!

They would be eligible for the minidraft if they declared themselves eligble. Teams can only pick players who put themselves up for selection.

2013 is the first year that the Academy kids can be taken and the Lions will not have any Academy kids available for selection next year.

Interesting that Sam Cabrera is in that initial state squad named above. He might not be puting himself into the draft then this year and playing as a 19yr old next year. He is one who I like a lot.
