In summary...

Aspley’s Harris Andrews was rock solid in Queensland’s defence, in what turned out to be a game-saving effort under the Falcons’ late attacking barrage.

Matt Hammelmann (three goals) started the day perfectly for Queensland, kicking the first goal of the game, as the teams exchanged majors early on, before
the Falcons took the early advantage.

Matt Uebergang (one goal) rebounded from a quiet game against the North Ballarat Rebels to play a key role in the forward line, creating opportunities in attack.

Queensland captain, Darcy Cameron-Reeves led from the front, in his final game for the state, while Liam Dawson was one of Queensland’s better players in his return from a shoulder injury.

The positive signs for 2015 continued as well for the Queensland side, with Corey Wagner and Ben Keays again asserting themselves on the midfield contest.

Great result for our academy boys. Good to Hammelmann & Andrews putting up consistent performances. Fantastic that Dawson was able to come back and play well first up from a lengthy lay off. Glad to see Uebergang back in some form too. I would be taking all 4 of these boys provided we don't have to pay overs.

Looks like some good prospects for next year too with Keays who I'd say is shaping like a first rounder and to a lesser extent Wagner who also is looking draftable if he can improve a few areas.

Dawson sounds similar to Mayes but with the ability to play down back. We're starting to get a few pretty handy utilities on the list.

Yeah if we take Dawson we'll have quite a few tallish midfielder/flanker type players with Lester, Robbo, Cutler, Mcstay as well Mayes. All in the high 180's, early 190's. I'd like to see either Dawson or Cutler developed as genuine mids a long with Robbo and Lester.

A total of eight eligible Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy members have been lodged by the Club as potential bid selections ahead of the 2014 NAB AFL National Draft.

The list includes: Harris Andrews (Aspley Hornets/Wilston Grange), Darcy Cameron-Reeves (Redlands/Morningside), Liam Dawson (Aspley Hornets/Wilston Grange), Matthew Hammelmann (Redlands/Morningside), Daniel Henderson (Maroochydore), William Kristelly (Maroochydore), Cameron Stevenson (Aspley/ University of Queensland), Matthew Ubergang (Redlands/ Western Magpies).

All eight of the aforementioned players may be eligible to be taken at the Father/Son and Academy bidding meeting on Monday 6 October.

The Lions will have until Friday 3 October to decide which of the eight players, if any, the Club wishes to nominate ahead of that bidding meeting.

An underage kid to watch out for next year is Brad Scheer. won the 16s div 2 mvp for Queensland as well as the div 2 best and fairest. made his QAFL debut as a 15 year old and earned himself a rising star nomination with a 5 goal effort. strong bodied mid who is rarely outmarked

Kid by the name of Jordie Daley is also a ripper of a player, although he seems too dedicated to his Union to give footy a red hot crack
