This is a concern for next year, we've lost two great creative small forwards in Dids and Krak this season. Elliott plays as a marking forward and Blair and Sidey get very little forward time now.

It's hard to see who'll be at Cloke's feet when he has manages to bring in to ground despite having three blokes on him.
Fasolo hopefully can hv a big season.
Mooney, KMart or BenKen may be put their hand up.
Swan to spend more time forward?
Blair to be squeezed out of the middle and be our FP?

A few options, but all need a bit of faith at this stage

It shouldn't be too hard to see, as neither played many full games in 2013 so we should already know what it looks like! Someone like Fasolo should help out in that regard.

Exactly, I didn't see it at all this year. I am hoping someone steps up, I think Fasolo can, but I see him as a really strong marking forward so I am skeptical. Either him or Elliot will have to alter their game to fit this role a little better.

Way too much "pigeon-holing" going on here....eg Elliot and Fasolo cant play the Krakouer role becuase they are lead up forwards rather than crumbers....etc etc. I dont think we will miss Krakouer or Didak. We have more or less been without them since 2011. With Adams coming into the side as more a specialist mid that will free up other mids like Sidebottom and Beams (remember him?) to spend more time forward. Add to that Macaffer (if he plays as a defensive fwd like he did in 2010) and also natural improvement from Kennedy Dwyer Martin Blair etc and I think we will have plenty of weapons to choose from in the small forward department.

I am of the opinion that our small forward crumbing work has been close to non existent for the last two seasons what with injuries and gameplan changes.

We had Fasolo in 2012 but he was playing as a small marking forward, not a crumbing player that can capitalise from the ground. This year he was injured and Elliott filled in and provided another small marking target.

I don't disagree with you but I still don't think we will get a true natural crumber from any of our current players. However, I can see us having enough offensive strength to cover that particular weakness through some of the methods you have outlined.

Don't get me wrong, I think Dids and Krak were both cooked, but I think it is silly not to have a specialist crumber when we are bombing it into a 3 on 1 with Cloke and there is no one at his feet. It happened a lot this year.

Bringing Jesse White to the side should help our small forwards a lot. Will give the forward line a lot more structure and make it harder to double team Cloke. Will allow Reid/Goldsack to also become a defacto small forward at times. Add Fasolo (injured) Kennedy (only a first year player last year) Elliot (only a second year player last year) Beams (injured a lot of last year and a proven goalkicking mid) Sidebottom (10 goals in a GF, will be able to spend more time forward with Beams Ball Adams J Thomas etc etc all back and fit) and Dwyer and Martin (second year in the system this season)

And thats before any contribution from Blair Maccaffer or any number of other younger players who from time to time have shown ability forward. Or Swan for that matter. And Pendles is ever reliable.

We'd all love a Cyril but they arent easy to find. I dont think its a weakness on the list. We seem to have heaps of options.

Yeah exactly it will be a different forward line next season, and like you said it'll have plenty of weapons. The reason I brought up the whole small forward thing was because this is a Didak thread I guess and I was remembering how much he and Krak offered in their prime, not now.

It doesn't have to be a Cyril, but it could easily be a Milne, Wingard, Motlop or a Dalhaus even, there are players out there for most teams. I am big fan of creative forwards that can kick goals out of nothing, I am of the opinion they create the best kind of forward pressure. It is something we won't have (and haven't for the last two seasons) next season unless somebody steps up and improves that side of their game.

The players I have highlighted above have to potential to develop that way in my opinion. Pendles and Beams need to play more through the centre as they are both better there and offer us good delivery going inside 50. As you mentioned, with Adams and Thomas running around it will allow players like Steele to push forward more regularly and I believe he could show a whole lot, but I worry if this is not a priority among the coaches at the moment.

The others you mentioned I think will either play like traditional tall or 2nd tall forwards, or even defensive forwards rather than specialist crumbing roles.

One player I just thought of might be Pat Karnezis, he has been flagged for joint forward and midfield time. He is reputed to have decent pace and great skills, he might be a little tall but he could provide that x-factor that crumbers do around goals.

Anyway sorry to detract from the Didak thread everyone, but I was enjoying the discussion!

Ah well good to see Didak will get another at GWS.
With Didak,Shaw, mumford,Hunt from Geelong and plus the option of 4 soon to be great forward options
Gws will be no easy walk over next season. They will improve out of sight.

GEE Dids and Shaw together again.Skullduggery at foot.
Lets hope they steer the kids in the right direction.

With Didak and krakouer gone who are the small forwards to take over.
Logically it would be Elliot and Fasolo who would bpoth spend time up forward and in the midfield.
Blair and Kennedy could also rotate with Elliot and fasolo.
We do have options.
Don't forget we will have a very mobile and quick forward line with Cloke,White and Lynch and or Reid.
Having players like sharenberg and karnesis running through as well.Very dangerous and hard to match up on.

Confirmed by GWS today that it's not happening.

Disappointing all round. Stellar Career Dids. Skills to burn... I'll always remember this as my favorite Didak moment of all time.

Respect to you for inspiring people like me.

Thanks Dids :thumbsu:
(I owe you a beer)

^^ Awesome post. Where's the "Love" button?

It's right here...

The ground he owned in that moment

After coming off the bench straight into the play, passing to O'Bree, running 100 meters to receive it straight back from OB1... waiving Buckley away... "Na, I'm kicking this" the uplifting rise of the crowd that continued from the minute the ball left his hands till the minute he stared stoney faced at an erupting, "Deafening" Magpie Army and simply...

Just put his hand to his ear as if to say... I can't hear you - I want more.

(I'm crying, gotta go)

Shame he's not being picked up, but in my own selfish way im kinda glad.. He deserved to be a one club player and i didnt really want to share him.

Good luck with everything Dids
