Andrew Flintoff will captain the side, only returning to the international scene last month in the Champions Trophy. Alex Tudor also returns to Australia in exciting circumstances, with Jimmy Anderson missing.

Squad: Alistair Cook, Anthony Davies, Andrew Flintoff (c), Ashley Giles, Stephen Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, Simon Jones, James Kirtley, Matthew Prior, Mark Ramprakash, Owais Shah, Ryan Sidebottom, Andrew Strauss, Marcus Trescothick, Alex Tudor

First Test Preview, Brisbane

In what is the most highly anticipated Ashes series in Australia of all-time, both sides are eager to get runs on the board as quick as possible and take full advantage of the series.

A sold out Gabba will provide a brilliant atmosphere, while deeper in the ground, the pitch is in fine condition, with a beautiful outfield for a turning pitch, but batting is ideally the best attack. Last time the two sides met here, the start of the 2002/03 series, Skipper Nasser Hussain elected to bowl, and allowed a blistering start by Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting, who both made centuries.

Australia have named their best side with no controversial decisions, as Watson will bat at number 6 like discussed. Jason Gillespie will play, meaning he won't discover what it is like to be dropped after making a double century in the previous test.

England have made an unbelievable move, leaving Andrew Strauss out of the side.

Australia: Justin Langer, Matthew Hayden, *Ricky Ponting, Damien Martyn, Mike Hussey, Shane Watson, +Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Brett Lee, Jason Gillespie, Glenn McGrath, Stuart Clark (12th man)

England: Marcus Trescothick, Alistair Cook, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Michael Vaughan, *Andrew Flintoff, +Matthew Prior, Ashley Giles, Simon Jones, Stephen Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, Andrew Strauss (12th man)

1st Test: Australia vs England at Brisbane

Day One - Hayden double gives Aussies magical start

Australia have set up a commanding position, after Ponting won the toss and elected to bat, on what is a terrific surface in brilliant conditions. Justin Langer and Matthew Hayden ran over the English attack in the first session, both bringing up half-centuries before lunch, where they stood at 116 for no wicket.

Langer and Hayden both continued on their rampaging form after coming out of the rooms, but a brilliant throw from Simon Jones ran out a hesitating Langer for 94, only six runs short of his 23rd test hundred. The opening partnership broken at a stand of 187 runs.

Hayden however went on to post a fantastic hundred, which was brought up off 171 balls. Ricky Ponting and Hayden batted solid throughout the second session, before the skipper was bowled by the Welshman, Simon Jones, for 17, on the last ball before the tea break.

Hayden then unleashed in the final session, smashing every bad ball to the boundary, and some good balls. He quickley posted a double century, hitting a single off his 261st ball. Hayden's second hundred coming off only 90 balls. He would soon be in the pavilion, clean bowled by Matthew Hoggard for 204 in a majestic knock.

Damien Martyn and Mike Hussey took the side to stumps, to post a score of 385 for 3.

1st Test: Australia vs England at Brisbane

Day Two - Martyn and Watson add to the already wounded Poms

A Damien Martyn hundred has given Australia and himself an extra boost. Martyn bought up his century off 203 balls with a boundary, coming 3 balls after lunch. Hussey had just left the 105 4th wicket partnership, but Shane Watson helped add to the Aussies fantastic start at the Gabba.

Martyn left for 128, while Adam Gilchrist and Shane Watson were sent a message to swing as Ponting was going to declare at tea. Watson changed the skipper's mind however, putting on a display and proving a century was on the cards. Watson made his first hundred off 153 balls, coming at the end of the 175th over, and seeing Australia declared at 673 for 5. Gilchrist made an unbeaten half-century.

England's openers Marcus Trescothick and Alistair Cook batted well to stumps, with the highlight being 2 boundaries smashed off Shane Warne by Trescothick.

Day Three - Freddie and Vaughan partnership keeps England at bay

A skippers knock by Andrew Flintoff and Michael Vaughan have turned the 1st test into a likely draw after both superstars made brilliant hundreds to allow England a chance of saving the match.

Flintoff and Vaughan remain at 120 and 105 respectively at stumps on day 3, with each looking to stay at the crease to improve a 205 partnership for the 5th wicket. England were in trouble thanks to 3 wickets in 9 overs, with Warne taking 2 and Watson claiming Bell in his first over.

Day Four - England avoid follow on as Aussies push for win

Australia are still pushing for a victory, looking to use a day 5 pitch as their only advantage. Australia, who have yet to declare, have pushed the lead to 285 at stumps, after England avoided the follow on.

Andrew Flintoff (189) and Michael Vaughan (139) helped the Poms on their way of recording 527 all out, with some help from bowlers Ashley Giles and Simon Jones. Shane Warne claimed 5 wickets for the home side, while Brett Lee claimed the tail, finishing with 3 himself.

Matthew Hayden continued his form with an onslaught of runs, but fell for 78, which included 11 boundaries. Langer and Ponting remain at the crease.

1st Test: Australia vs England at Brisbane

Day Five - England take series 1-0 with amazing chase

England have recorded another stunning Ashes victory, this time through a fantastic run chase set by Australia. With 86 overs to use, 331 was set by Ricky Ponting after he declared several overs into the day after smashing a few balls to the boundary himself.

England chased down the total with only 2 wickets remaining and 4 balls left in a historic test match, another in the modern day Ashes book. Ian Bell was the star reaching triple figures while Michael Vaughan continued his form and keeper Matthew Prior hit the winning runs in a great lower-order display, an unbeaten half-century.

Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne found wickets time to time, while as the skies got darker the match became more on the edge of your seat sort of stuff. The tail went quickly, but the resistance shown by Prior was fantastic.

Matthew Hayden's double century, followed up by a smashing 78 earned him man of the match honours on home turf.

Toss: Australia
Result: England win by 2 wickets
Series: England lead 1-0

Shows what a bad captain he is, i'd get rid of him before the Ashes if i was Australia. Great win from England, up there with the 315 Headingley chase from a few years ago

Haha, good to have some opposition blood on here. All we need is eddiesmith to provide us with insights such as how good Collingwood is, despite not being selected :p

Haha, umm...yeah  :p

Anyway, the 2nd test will be up tonight, as I have finished this f'n practice set for uni!

Second Test Preview, Perth

In what is the most highly anticipated Ashes series in Australia of all-time, both sides are eager to get runs on the board as quick as possible and take full advantage of the series.

The Ashes are hot, really hot after another historic victory by England at the Gabba several days ago. England have travelled to Perth 1-0 up in cricket's biggest prize and Australia have flown the journey with critics on their back, especially Ricky Ponting's for what will be a famous declaration (or shall i say infamous).

Australia have made two changes to their side, with in-form youngster Mitchell Johnson to make his test debut. Johnson has been in sensational international touch, stunning the nation with his ability to dismiss the world's best batsmen with his left arm red hot pace. Shaun Tait has also been re-called to an Ashes side after his last and second test match being at The Oval last year. Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie have been dropped, with Lee being named 12th man.

England have announced that Andrew Strauss is carrying a thigh strain which was secretly kept from the media until last night. Strauss was named 12th man for the first test under the intention that he was not good enough for the XI. Anthony Davies has been named 12th man for the 2nd test.

Australia: Justin Langer, Matthew Hayden, *Ricky Ponting, Damien Martyn, Mike Hussey, Shane Watson, +Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Mitchell Johnson, Shaun Tait, Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee (12th man)

England: Marcus Trescothick, Alistair Cook, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Michael Vaughan, *Andrew Flintoff, +Matthew Prior, Ashley Giles, Simon Jones, Stephen Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, Anthony Davies (12th man)

2nd Test: Australia vs England at Perth

Day One - Rain delays but Australia look strong

On a cloudy day in Perth, Skipper Andrew Flintoff sent the Australians into bat to test out the reverse swing of Hoggard and Jones and the unpredictable bounce of front man Stephen Harmison, but Australia looked solid with bat in hand.

Not an issue in the first test, the Australians continued to look sure against the English attack, with resiliant half centuries from Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer, and then Damien Martyn in the last over of the day. Australia posted 254 for 4 after 2 rain delays and were also offered the light at about 5:15, but Martyn and Watson refused to let the weather take control.

Toss: England
Result: Australia lead by 254 runs
