The AFL Players’ Association confirmed on Wednesday night that a rule had been agreed in June that gives players the right to terminate their contracts and sign with a rival club of choice.

A player must prove the breach of contract.

For an Essendon player to successfully invoke the clause, he would have to prove Essendon’s conduct in relation to its 2012 supplements program represented a breach.

Interesting.

We knew the AFLPA asked for this 12 months ago, but the Commission said nothing publicly. They obviously discussed it though. It's highly significant for EFC and also helps to explain why EFC have been able to resign players over the last 12 months: the players have an out. All the contract guarantees them is income, but they have no obligation in return. Why wouldn't they sign up?

Bombers obviously not feeling confident they can beat North, have asked their good pals at News if they can release the story now to give the troops something to rally around once again;)

Speculative, but interesting if Connors is using this as an avenue to treat Ryder as a virtual free agent to Brisbane. Someone is going to try to take advantage of this clause.

Just a good PR stunt for Essendon.

Excellent. I was expecting all week some ASADA news that would unite them. This is just brilliant though.

<Essendon supporter> He's an overrated hack anyway, we have plenty of cover in TB(4)Chambers and Big Joe and anyway, if he doesn't to be part of Prem17 under the firm but wise hand of James Albert Hird, then he can go, we don't want him anyway </Essendon supporter>

Anyway, this is just another attempt by the AFL, using their NORF loving mouthpiece Caro, to smear Essendon and ruin their finals chances because the AFL would much prefer another NORF final rather ... um, um, um ... can someone put another dollar into The Flight Plan?

Only issue with that is proving the Bombers breached their duty of care means they are serving a 2 year suspension.
