If you're allowing a flippant word to set you off on a downward spiral of emotions then you most definitely have mental issues.
This shows that you are entirely unable to display the most human of emotions; empathy. Your experience is not anyone else's. It is unbelievably precious of you to presume that you can definitively decide what is a reasonable reaction for people who have experiences you refuse to acknowledge. Your psuedo-intellectual posts in this thread represent the worst of Australian attitudes.

So everything that was seen as appropriate 60 years ago should still be accepted?

BRB going to go bash a NTTAWWTter and tell the abbos they aren't humans once again.
Have you ever said anything with your tongue firmly in your cheek? Aussies did this all the time, it was part of our way of life...there was more jest meant than anything else. You see, this is where you miss the point, you didn't take everything literally in those days, you would make a comment (usually a smartarse one) and move on....why so serious these days? Australia is so tense now, so unsure of itself, it has lost it's charm and it yes it might've been a naive charm at the time, but what a great place it once was. Now days you if you bump into someone at a bar and spill their beer some Ice fueled crack head will king hit you from behind and kill you. I guess that is acceptable?

Therefore the main offence is caused to others, not the intended recipient.
Homophobic slurs such as "NTTAWWTter" ARE intended to cause offense to homosexual men regardless of when they're used.

This is the point you and many people are missing.

"Why do people get upset if you call them n*gger/chink/slope? Are they ashamed of being black/Asian?"

They get upset becuase they don't know the person saying it to them. Don't be so naive to think black and white people who are friends dont use the N word among themselves. They do. Once again, context.

was he aware we also had women in Australia?

For those loving the nostalgia of past media which is politically incorrect now, times change. Growing up you used to have "Have Thy Neighbour" on, but there is no way this would be acceptable to the majority of people today, because our views on what is acceptable and what isn't has changed.

In 1957 we also had a White Australia policy too, times change

You're right, Taylor should've called Harry a silly "Sheila"
