The Canberra Knights are going to fold if they can't raise $100k in by Monday:

Anyone who wants to help keep them in the comp there is a fundraising site accepting donations:

I also heard that the rink owner may keep the rights to the name so even if they play this year they may have to find a new name.

It would be sad to see them fold.
Keeping the Knights name is not really critical and if the players can put an acceptable proposal together it is probably better that a new name be found.
It is a real pity that this has happened so close to the season. Those familiar with the Canberra rink and hockey night there will know that every transaction is in cash, the bar which is open for some time before games is always full and that the fans are very loyal and vocal. The figures being bandied around about costs and losses are open to speculation.
The whole hockey community wants a team in Canberra and if an extra few days is required to make it happen sanity should prevail. If it doesn't happen I am sure that clubs which have already paid deposits on flights and accommodation will be looking for compensation.

So apparently there will be a Canberra team this season after a serious fundraising effort but they will be called the CBR Brave:

Pity about the name, what am I supposed to dress up as to represent Brave? Will the logo just be the word brave or a big B, only time will tell.
At least there will still be a team for the 1200 or so who usually turn up to a Knights game in that uncomfortable shed in Phillip.

Home of the Brave?! Whatever. Go CBR!!!!!!
The importance of keeping a team alive so close to the season is obvious to all other clubs. Having sold memberships etc and sponsorship packages on the basis of 14 home games, losing 2 home fixtures had horrible ramifications. Also trying to get back deposits of air fares and accommodation would not be straight forward. With a number of former players returning to play with CBR Brave they will have a deeper roster which will be good. They had some horrible luck last year with injuries and a couple of key suspensions plus the walk out of a very talented import mid season left them bereft of quality and numbers.
