Hey Auckmel.

What was your 1st impression of NRL teams running out in AFL guernseys in the 9s?

Admittedly they were poorly designed, and the clubs could have made a better fist of making them look attractive. But theory seem to have a positive cooling effect (and harder to grab onto) on the teams that used them. And those teams did go pretty well I think?

Both missed out on finals (I think) I get the Storm one and it would be a good marketing tool, but it just didn't look right, but probably because it was the first time.

Yeah, it could have been a marketing dream for Melbourne. The designs on all of them were sus. Why they didn't really try and get it right i'll never know. All they had to do was ask the bigfooty Guernsey design section, and they would have had a choice of some brilliant designs. Teams should really consider the Guernsey for playing in Townsville, Bris and GC when its 34 deg etc. And yes, they all could market the Guernsey to supporters who also want to wear their clubs colours but be cooler...

The titans chairwoman says in the bully today that the titans definitely would have folded if the nrl had not stepped in and taken over. She confirmed voluntary administration was the responsible thing to do because they weren't going to survive and were about to fold. So if you believe there is a war going on then it's hard to argue the suns aren't winning. Crippling debt and about to fold vs a million dollar profit in 2014.
The suns received a AFL revenue grant of $16.5 Million. So in real terms an accountant will tell you that the Suns lost $15.5 last year

Not too many clubs don't have their snout in the trough when it comes to grants, from little local tennis clubs, little local athletics clubs, town basketball, RL, AFL clubs all apply for grants....and receive them. From as little as $500 from your local council yearly, to corporate funding, state and federal grants, there is money for sports clubs everywhere. There are people who specialise in applying for grants on behalf of small and large clubs for a %.

I agree with you. I was just pointing out the fact that the suns received $16.5 million in revenue grants and made a million bucks profit, which in real terms showed the club made a working loss of $15 million.

How long does the club continue to get financial bonuses on top of the normal distribution for?

Yeah, you are right. Not a good look, but its covered.

Usually you'll find that the money 16mill went towards something specific, or it was a total of a few grants that went towards a few things. So had the grants not been given, the money would not have been spent. ie; if a grant of 5 mil was given to upgrade a grandstand, it only appears on the ledger because the money was granted and the work done. Had we not received the grant, the work wouldn't have been done and no debit would occur on the ledger.

Why is this bad news?

Its actually excellent news. They are throwing good money after bad.

We don't want their development money spent and located in the Bris-Toowoomba corridor. AFL is making huge inroads into this area, as they are on the GC and Northern rivers of NSW, Macay and Cairns. The Gold Coast is the wrong marketplace for the franchise, they cant see it. Thank god. Let them be mediocre right where they are. Afl will take over SEQ. A NEAFL team in Ipswich or Toowoomba would be a good goal for the near future.

Annesley reiterated the NRL’s support for the Titans amid speculation the club could be relocated within southeast Queensland.

“It (the Titans being relocated) is so far from the mark it’s not funny,” he said.

“The NRL is absolutely committed to the Gold Coast. The club is not going anywhere. I have read a few things but we have no plans to relocate.’’

Every club gets a base contribution of 8.7million

The AFL said way back when that they would contribute 200 million for the GC and GWS over a period of time.

Nothing more nothing less has happened ATM

Even the Eagles and Collingwood would make a loss without the AFL distribution.

Since these accounts are audited by genuine accountants and say otherwise, you'll forgive me if I dont believe you. Further ALL clubs receive a distribution that averaged out to 11 million across the league in 2014 - 8.7 million of that is contractually obliged under the licence agreements the clubs have with the league.

If any club receives a revenue grant of $16 million plus like the suns did and then makes a profit of $1 million. That is a operating loss of $15 million. Its basic add and subtraction.

Grants count as Revenue. Its basic accounting. Operating loss is revenue minus expenses, as clearly outlined in the Suns annual report. Go troll elsewhere.

If you look at it properly the AFL gives out an average of $11M so really we're only getting about $5.5M more than other clubs. If you want to look at the whole amount then collingwood made a loss in 2014 and that is really not a fair way to look at it. I call troll.

I'm not sure how many people are aware of this but there appears to be a groundswell of supporters gearing up to attend the Titans' Round 1 match against the Wests Tigers this Saturday night. They are running a #titansfullhouse campaign and the Gold Coast Bulletin is right behind the concept. They are also offering $20 memberships which includes free entry for this one game. The Wests Tigers have traditionally been a lower drawing team at Robina so if they do pack the stadium it'll be on the back of a lot of locals getting behind the Titans. It'd be good to see because usually Gold Coasters are too lazy when it comes to these things.

It all amounts to nothing if the following week it is back to normal again

hope the titans stay. Hate to see them go somewhere where we aren't the dominant code in QLD.....yet.

He's not trolling. Accounting and simple balance sheets aren't that simple. Especially where cash is introduced. They may be to some. A motor is simple to a mechanic...
