No I believe we messed up our list management, eg Reid 5 years

Sinclair we have signed cheap of course ready for pay rises

Ah hindsight what a wonderful thing.

When we signed Reid, we had no idea Tippet was going to choose Sydney as his next destination, that Buddy would shack up with a lady from Sydney, that Ediie would crack the shits with the academy system or the AFL would punish us for actually obeying their rules.

Our list management has been proven sound based on the circumstances at the time and even faced with a number of situations that no one saw coming we are in reasonable shape at present.

Our depth, age and experience spread could be a little better and we are thin in a couple of spots but overall we have a list that can challenge and is surprisingly young.

Exactly no idea what will happen hence my dislike for long term deals, nothing to do with hindsight just a long held view

However the results thus far as you say have been good

I guess if every team is doing long contracts the risk is spread.

AR is a professional career option now. And if you don't lock down your talent (after winning them over to buy into the club and not do the mercenary thing) their mobility these days almost guarantees you'll lose them.

I reckon every team now has at least 5 guys on their list - or on another team's list - they're assessing offering 4-5 year contracts toi. Probably to the stars/high draft picks in the 22-25 yr range.

At the other end, those players 26 and over are real flight risks. If you're over 27 and not prepared to move for a big deal then you're probably not getting good management advice.

Agreed.

We have missed how many finals series in the last ten years?

Sydney has taken more than a few iffy players and turned them into solid performers, some champions. Reid has promised a lot but hasn't reached the heights of expectations. Still, it made sense to lock him in.

Rampe is another one it makes sense to lock in and 4 years might become the new normal in comign years.

Most important signing IMO, roughly in order.
Parker (24 @ 2016)
Heeney (20 @ 2016)
Smithy (28 @ 2016)
Titchell (23 @ 2016)
Jonesy (22 @ 2017)

These guys are the guys that are pushing towards the end of their careers with (hopefully) solid competition for their spot. Guys like Mills, Heeney, Mitchell, Parker having taken up a fair chunk of responsibility in the middle.
JPK (29 @ 2017)
Tippo (29 @ 2016)
Rampe (29 @ 2019)
Hanners (30 @ 2021)
Reid (26 @ 2017) - Could move up the list depending on form the next 2 years.
Rohan (26 @ 2017) - ala Reid.
KJack (29 @ 2016) - I reckon safe as houses to stay, particularly if still Captain.

Likely last contract (or last before 1-2 yr extensions anyway)
Grundy (32 @ 2018) - Could push on 1-2yrs if he doesn't lose too much pace/awareness. Unlikely though.
Macca (32 @ 2017) - Ala Grundy.
Buddy (35 @ 2022) - Def done after this, how could he not be? Bionic knees?

Like it :thumbsu:

But I think Reid, JPK and Tippo would all be people I'd like to see extended in 2016 if possible.

*Thinks about writing a scathing response but decides he basically can't be stuffed*

Haha if Tippo carries on with his end of season form then it wouldnt need to be a big cut however Reid needs a massive year or a massive pay cut.

OK, this has had its big update for the year

All players are in the positions with the latest article regarding their contract status however the following assumptions are made:

Tonights draft picks are assumed out of contract at the end of 2017 as standard AFL contract for draftee is 2 years. We might extend Mills to a third year. Same goes for last years draft picks.

Nanka, Robinson and Hewitt were according to our list out of contract this year but as they are still listed and no further news has come out regarding their contract status we are putting them into next years out of contract list.

All rookie listed players are given a one year contract.

Michael Talia and Callum Sinclair have not had the length of their contracts revealed. Thus we are assigning Talia a two year contract and Sinclair a 3 year contract. Both could have an extra year but without an article to quote we are playing it safe.

No doubt this coming year is a big one in terms of re-signing players on our list. Parker is the big name that could move everything along quickly

Weren't they saying Parker was likely to sign on by Christmas? Where's our Christmas present?
Quote from today's article on Parker on the Swan's site:
“Our midfield group is still pretty young, so hopefully we can play together for another four or five years which by then you really get that synergy and know how each other plays.
So at least an indication he plans on sticking around.
