I remember a few years back when a precocious midfielder/forward was best and fairest in a premiership year, had an awesome finals series and had ludicrous disposal efficiency in the toughest game of the year. Not even then did the collective call for him to be the best player in the game.

I love Kelly, every club’s recruiting department have multiple eggs on their faces for missing him, and he may well win a Brownlow. But ffs, can we let players develop before trying to anoint them?

If Carey played against modern defenders and defensive tactics you'd think differently.
Carey would still dominate today. In fact he'd be even better given the s**t frees forwards get now.

And if the current players played back then they would be made to look like fools while true forwards with space ripped them to shreds. It works both ways.

So without space and with most delivers bombed on his head against 3 much taller defenders he'd still do better than largely having 1 on 1 contests and an acre of space? Right.

This bloke has greatest player of all time potential written all over him - and his 2019 could go down as the greatest season ever by an individual.

This year - he is a good chance to sweep the MVP, Brownlow and Norm Smith as well as become a premiership player.

Is there a chance that he could become the greatest player to ever play the game?
ffs. There have been a few before him who have a few good days out.

Except that players get better over time... Not worse. Bigger stronger faster better skills more composure the list goes on and on.
Brent Harvey played with Carey. Then players got bigger faster better skills and he still was good enough to play.
Thinking that players from one era would not be good in the following era is ridiculous especially when players have done so.

Great players no matter the era will always be great players. Not much point in trying to put players from a different era down. Everything evolves and with professional footy came higher fitness, stronger and faster athletes. But just the same as every other era there is still huge numbers of poorly skilled players and there is huge numbers of very talented players. They stand out today just as they did 30 years ago.
If you believe that the greats from different eras would be no good in today’s game then that’s your view but you must remember that if they were playing now they would also be fitter, faster and stronger than they were in their own era but still with the same talent. In what universe would those great players with today’s professionalism of fallen short?

Yep. You're delusional

By far the greatest player of all time, no one even comes close and probably never will. How do you even put a price on such talent.
