Is tehre any way of actually doing this? It seems so stupidly primitive for the new forum
preview shows the correct tabbing

Try doing the file in word and then save it as a pdf. Then upload the file

The other thing you can do is copy somebody else's table and then redesign it to fit how many columns and rows you need. If you click on the Reply link in the bottom right hand corner of someone's post who has inserted a table, you will then have their table ready for use. (You need to be logged in to Big Footy first). You will need to remove the word QUOTE at the beginning and end of the table before you post it as your own. I have copied a number of people's tables in the past and have a select few saved in OneNote for future use because I found the initial instructions which were posted in relation to inserting a table too confusing (not user friendly).
