Crows can sneak into 8th. Play Port in a Showdown and win (form means nothing in Showdowns). But Week 2 is as far as they go in the best case scenario. Can't really win the flag if you can't make the Prelim finals...

If the Crows can beat West Coast playing at AO this week, and Port, Sydney and Geelong also win (meaning that Collingwood, Essendon and North lose), then the Crows could conceivably climb to 6th by the end of round 19. If they can hold that spot, and Port can finish in the top 4, then the Crows could get a home final in week 1 and there could still be a showdown final in later finals rounds. It is possible therefore for the Crows to draw two finals at AO. In this scenario it is not outlandish to imagine that the Crows could make it as far as a prelim final.

Making a prelim in that way would be what I consider to be a best case scenario for the Crows this year.

Great side to watch when they're on but I think they'd have to be exceptionally lucky to go all the way.

Like most realistic Crows fans, I think a PF is the furtherest we will go this year, heavily reliant on the cards falling well for us (1 or 2 AO finals, + a lucky win).

But in regards to the Crows team playing last week, there were only 3 teams with less experience than the Crows this round; GWS, GC and Brisbane. Collingwood only have 4-5 games Avg more than the Crows, but please don't claim Collingwood are rebuilding while the Crows aren't in exactly the same situation.

******* lol at most of the responses from the adelaide supporters in this thread. north/essendon/port all better than adelaide and yet a thread about adelaide possibly winning the flag is made because they had just defeated a young collingwood team :straining::straining:

My mate a few weeks back put $100 for crows to win the premiership. If he wins he will get around $10,000

That said no chance. Hope we don't get Adelaide first week because there goes our home ground advantage. Still confident we would beat them though
I would prefer to play you guys in week 2 of the finals - don't give up on top 4 ;)

In aanswer to the op - crows won't win the flag this year but capable of winning 1st 2 weeks. Too many good sides to beat without a double chance.

And yet at our last meetings against these sides we beat two and gave one a 7 goal start and nearly caught them.

We won't make a gf but given we play West Coast, Brisbane, Richmond and St Kilda (3 at home) plus North we could easily finish 13-9 and possibly 14-8. If we finish 14-8 we will finish 6th and a home final.

In saying that there are more twists and turns before this season concludes.

no team will ever win the flag from outside the top 4 under this finals system. ever. even more so the way footy is taking a greater phyiscal toll year upon year upon the players

i am pretty sure that this is the 15th year of this finals system being utilised, and ahead of this year's series only 2 of the 28 1st week winners have gone on to win in week 2 -hawthorn in 2001 traveled to adel and got the job done over port, while in 2007 the pies needed extra time at subi v an eagles side missing judd cousins and kerr to get over the line. so really it is almost impossible to win 2 games in a row from outside the top 4, let alone 4 to win a flag

Under the slightly different finals system that was used in 1997 Adelaide finished 4th, won in the first week but still had to play three more finals in the last three weeks, and won them all (won all four finals games in four successive weeks) to win the flag.

Under the slightly different finals system that was still used in 1998 Adelaide finished 5th, lost in the first week but were not eliminated, but then in the last three weeks of the finals series (essentially unchanged from 1998 till now) Adelaide won three games in a row to win the flag.

So ... not at all impossible to win 2 games in a row from outside the top 4, nor is it impossible to win 4 finals games in a row to win a flag. Both feats have already been done.

I take it you just read the title. :p

We're 8th with 5 weeks to go...

Big Footy is the real flag smokey here.
