They should still have a NAB Cup trophy. The next time the top 2 teams play each other (after the 18 NAB games), whether it happens to be a practice game the following week or in the season proper, that game becomes the NAB Cup Game, with a trophy given to the winner.

If teams ie (Brisbane Pt Adelaide) are going to pick 4th rate teams -people aernt going to watch that uncompetitive rubbish

The pre season comp was worth winning once - Geelong won it in 2009 - beating Collingwood

In the 80s when Hawthorn dominated - they regularly won it - can remember 1988 - when they beat Geelong

Theres so much reward in the AFL for being hopeless ie The Draft

They should have a proper pre season comp - like they used to - and teams that actually try - should get rewarded- the winner of the pre season comp should get say pick 20 in the Draft - as a reward for winning it

What Leppicth did was just totally and utterly stupid - theve just lost$ 1.5 million last season - they need members - youve got to give supporters hope - and he picks a ridiculous team - what a bloody tool head

Quickest way to have a comp would be to have 2 rounds of those 3-way contests.

Round 1: 18 sides into 6 3-way contests, producing 6 winners.
Round 2: 6 sides into 2 3-way contests, producing 2 winners.
GF: 2 sides play off for the NAB Cup.

I guess you've gotta accept that with the NAB Challenge you're going to get these kind of games where one teams brings a relatively experienced squad and the other not so much. Makes for a pretty uncompetitive, uninspired viewing experience.

As always, looks for positives for both sides:

I thought Eddie Betts was a great pick-up at the time and this game confirmed that for me. Also, looks like you've found another gem in Matt Crouch.

For Port, Impey showed flashes and Polec showed good composure and skill.

If you pay attention to footy as much as your average BF regular, meaning footy is probably borderline an obsession for you, then the NAB stuff is good in a different way to the H/A season. You can watch Brisbane's first round draftees, check up on Carlton's Irish project players, get your eye in for supercoach or tipping competitions, see how your team's depth is going. It's more like bird watching than sport.
If you want to see an even, gritty contest played at a game's highest calibre with the biggest names in February, you're better off watching the cricket or the NBA or something because you're not going to get it in the pre-season.

The only thing I can take out of this game was Richmond Oval looked a treat. Anyone know what the AFL spent their $50,000 on? Surface looked excellent

Liking that Port haven't changed their gameplan much from last year.
They better hope for miracles again, because without it, no finals coming on that front.

yeah ok. Lets see how players with experience play that gameplan first.

If this game proved any thing at all it was that port are better at player management the Adelaide are.
give it a rest.. Adelaide admitted last year that we didnt take the NAB cup seriously enough. Hence getting our players playing this year and not expecting to flip a switch and be ready for round 1. Danger and Sloane played, but did not have alot of game time.

Again, it proves Port are better at player management. We are doing exactly what we did last year. All the players played last week, gave them a rest this week and the next two games they will play. Worked last year.

Not saying Adelaide don't know what they are doing. Just that Port know how to manage their players better.

That was without Burgess... Last year and yesterdays game proves how much better port are at player management

all yesterday proved is that your depth is struggling...
Not really, 9 players who have never played a AFL game, also 13 players (including the 9) who have played less then 20 games.

But yes you are right if 13 of our best players all of a sudden get injured our depth will not be that good (as every club would not be).... Good try though:thumbsu::rolleyes:
