Yeah true. The shot clock in basketball ensures that teams don't spend much time pissing around with the ball. In soccer you can have teams maintain possession for minutes without even having a shot.

There's some great stories about basketball games pre-shot clock where teams just held the ball. I think there was a 19-18 game in the NBA, and there's some even lower scoring college games.
