Well, it's been the talk of the SFA recently. The "super group" of powerful posters, one from each club, have been formed. Lead by IMS, this group has banded together to nut out the top 10 and bottom 10 posters each week. If they want the idea to be successful, they need to correct themselves immediately.
The Bottom 10 List is a way for the faceless men to get their opinions across. There are some posters in the almighty super group that have opinions that they are too gutless to share. Maybe, it is a case of a few of these posters caring a little too much about their reputations. This is the perfect way for this group of respected posters to portray their negative thoughts, without having to own up to them.
I would like to say, that I respect the 8 posters chosen in this powerful group. I honestly value their opinions, and genuinely enjoy the concept of the Top Ten List each week. My position in this list may be under threat, as I honestly believe that their Bottom 10 List is cowardly, and to the detriment of the league.
The argument that being named on the list "will help you get better" is an absolute farce. MannumPower's style is highly active and light hearted. He had one of his best weeks IMO, and was named on the bottom 10 list for spamming. Same with a few others. HurleyGun will be named every single week, yet I feel that he has been quite constructive this week and was very helpful in posting the matches. Juggs will struggle to fall from number one, but at least he has the guts to say what he thinks. Is he a worse poster than some unknown from the Bombers who posts once a week? Absolutely not, he has his style, he says what he thinks and he generates activity.
The fact is, if any of the above commit acts of floggery, why don't the super group have the balls to call them out on it at the time? Make your point known, don't try to keep your reputation intact. For many of the super group, this is one of the few times they will make their negative opinions known. And they do it hiding behind a group, so nobody will know what they truly think.
The Top Ten list works, because it encourages the posters who have done well in the past week in the eyes of well respected posters. The Bottom Ten list does not. Why would we want to discourage posters? The claim that it can help make posters better...Are you trying to create a breed of robotic, vanilla posters? Do we really need an SFA full of ClarkeM clones?
Of course, they would have known that it would be controversial. And they would have known the activity and whinges that it could attract. What they did not see coming, was the damage that it would actually do to their own reputations. Because they are now saying the things they don't have the guts to say themselves. It's not the reputations of the Bottom 10 that take a hit. It is that of the faceless men who are to afraid to express negative opinions by themselves.
