Not 100% sure who wrote Tainted Love, but it's generally considered the first version was released by Gloria Jones.Who was Marc Bolan's girlfriend. She was driving their mini when it crashed and killed Marc (as far as I remember)and the police wanted to charge her with manslaughter. She fled england and as far as I know hasn't returned since. Think that was in 1977.
Knocking on heaven's door is a Bob Dylan song.

A couple of my fav covers are.......

TISM - "For those about to rock we salute you" (AC/DC)(Only ever saw them do it live they've never recorded it.)
ROWLAND S.HOWARD - "White Wedding" (William Broad)
THE CLASH - "Police on my back" (The Equals)
DEAD KENNEDYS - "I fought the law" (Bobby Fuller Four)
BOYS NEXT DOOR - "These boots are made for walking" (Nancy Sinatra)
BEASTS OF BOURBON - " Ride On" (AC/DC)
PAINTERS AND DOCKERS - "Kill Kill Kill" (unsure who wrote it-probably Mel Brooks-taken from an episode of "Get Smart")
THE DAMNED - "Help" (The Beatles how they should be done fast and furious).
SONIC(Ciccone) YOUTH - "Into the Groove(y)" (Madonna)
THE PIXIES - "Head On" (Jesus and Mary Chain)
THE RAMONES - "Somebody to love" (Jefferson Airplane)

Better stop now. This could go on for ever.

Well sOoOoOoOrrrry! ;)

In my case, I became familiar with the Maiden version first and therefore ended up preferring it. I do like the original though.

Have you heard Maiden's version... you'd have to admit it's a pretty good cover?

Both are very good, but I prefer the Maiden one because I have never been a big fan of Shirl's voice. On the other hand, "Killers" is my favourite Iron Maiden album, and Women In Uniform was released around the same time (it appears on the re-masters of the CD and I believe on the original vinyl, but not on the original pressings of the CD).

The Maiden version skips the last verse, where Shirl's voice is quite androgynous, something which a) Paul Di'Anno would not have been able to do and b) would sound out of place on the Maiden version of the song, as well as the rest of the album.

The Lizard Train - She Gets Me Weak At The Knees (who the **** did the original of this?)
Chris Wilson - It takes a lot to laugh (it takes a train to cry) (Dylan)
John Cash - Highway Patrolman (Springsteen)
Weddings Parties Anything - What Did The Detectives Say (Sports)
Hunters & Collectors - I Believe (Ray Charles)
Hank Williams - Blue Yodel No. 9 (Rogers)
The Pogues - And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda (Eric Bogle)
Beasts Of Bourbon - Ride On (AC/DC), the only ACDC song I can stand
Rolling Stones - Love In Vain (Robert Johnson)
Hollowmen - Don’t Want To Know If You Are Lonely (Bob Mould)
Paul Kelly - From Little Things Big Things Grow (Kev Carmody)
Ceveza Y Putas - Summer Of 69 (Bryan Adams)

Could you count Tex, Don and Charlie’s version of Janelle (the Cold Chisel Song), Danielle as a cover?

99 Luftballoons - heard that the other week and was racking my brain for the chick that did the original. Geez she used give my adolescence a kick along.
