Groundhog day revisited

Our current injury list includes:-
Tall Forwards: Corbin Stevic , Will Pickering (missed all games and bye since R6 vs Mazenod)
Centres/small forwards: L Baker(missed all games and bye since 1st UB game), M Cussen ,J Turner, R Angiolella, J Dalton, D Patcas, Will Johnson
Backs: TBH (season), Alex Ricco(work rosters)
Rucks: J Mackay(indefinite)

The focus of the opposition last Saturday was to shut down our remaining playmakers. To the extent that Dan Bisetto kicked no goals and Will Fenton collected most of his possessions supporting the defence, whilst others, who have been prolific ball winners (eg GH,MK,DPP) in recent weeks, had more modest possession counts and allowed their direct opponents goals, Caulfield succeeded. Dan needs another tall forward each week on the half forward line to take key half back defenders and drop back ruckman's sole focus off him. Joe Hill from the under 19s must come into consideration as must James Mcgee or Tom Biscaro until either or both Corbin and ‘Wild Bill’ return. Caulfield played a reverse result “turtle and hare” game almost identical to the one they beat us with at this ground in 2013 i.e. jump to an early lead and hold on.

We will improve on the defence ladder having already taken our two fixture whacks from UB, but without at least double digit goal scores on the board it will prove fruitless as was last year because firepower doesn’t match the iron shield we usually have in defence .Good return game was made this week by Sam Baker and Ross Borland got 100% efficiency from his possessions.
Old Haileybury must be the object of transferred disappointment in our two recent 8 point losses and the game we drew with them earlier in the year when it was ours for the taking.

Its rather simple, in my opinion. With Pickers playing we can expect to kick over ten goals in a match but if he does not play, we hope to kick ten goals in a match.

We have improved from last year where the number was five goals when Pickers played, or did not play.

A ruckman and a big forward would make all the difference but isn't pleasing that we don't ever give up and look a team that belongs at this level?
