Give his Mum or Dad a job in Perth. Bring them over.

Introducing Fremantles new junior relocation adjustment specialist team. Mr & Mrs Balic.

I like his attitude and self confidence in response to being a late pick. Worse case scenario, if he turns out to be a player is we use him to get McCarthy/Hogan in two years time.

Lol his parents are bloody sooks. Let him grow up and fulfill his dream! He'll be ok once he's made the move and met with all of our champion blokes like Pav and Fyfe. Freo are doing really well with player retention so I don't think we have anything to be concerned about.

If his Dad is such a flog then he will happily sign whatever we put in front of him just so he doesn't have to see him.

How would he have coped if Harley had followed through on the basketball front and ended up in College in the US for 4 years, or even worse somewhere in Europe?

Balic calls himself a “bit of mother’s boy’’. He’s particularly close to his mother and she was overwhelmed at the thought of him relocating to Perth.
Eek!

Pretty sure most parents aren't keen to see their sons move to the other side of the country at 18. Was pavs family's worst nightmare

The great thing for this batch of draftees is that they're guaranteed to experience the new facilities at Cockburn during their contract. It'll be another carrot to limit any urge to return to the eastern clubs and their lesser facilities.

Been a long time since we have lost a player we have wanted to keep at the club...

I don't think we've recruited a player for a while with the warning signs we're seeing from Balic's family here. Hopefully the separation does him good.

“At the start I was a bit worried but thinking about it all night and this morning, it’s going to be a good thing for me,’’ he said.

“I won’t have all the distractions I may have here, friends, the antics, everything like that. I’ll be over there training and getting better … at the end of the day it doesn’t matter, because it depends on what you do with it (draft selection). If I can prove the clubs wrong who didn’t pick me, that’s the first thing I want to do.

“But overall I’m just grateful. I was one of the lucky ones. A few of my mates didn’t get picked up.’’

The kid himself sounds like he's got his head screwed on right with a good attitude towards the move at least.

I can understand the Mum's tears though, that's pretty natural.

What kind of a father offers money to his son to forgoe his AFL dream, not to mention royally screw you guys over in the process?

Is it even legal?

No wonder so many clubs passed on him.

Croziers mum audibly screamed no on draft night. Weller has had rumors of homesickness and close family connections since he got here.

It is perfectly normal for families to be sad that their kid is moving to the other side of the country. I am certain that the dads comment was a complete off the cuff remark and taken in context was probably meant as a joke.
