apologies if this belongs on the games board, but I couldn't find an appropriate thread.

Got an Xbox 360 giving me red rings, I'm intent on getting it repaired and not buying an XB1. Anyway, are there any quick fixes/reboots etc i'm not aware of I should try, and if not are there any places that do repairs in Melbz?

Cheers

Hey guys, got a problem with my laptop.

Within the last month or so, it's beginning to hang on the welcome screen after I enter my logon details. Usually a hard reset sorts it for a while, but its persistent.

Any ideas?

Hey all, need some help.

Just did a software update on PS3 to 4.50. Put GTA 5 in after update and PS3 is not picking up the disc?? Was working fine with other games before hand. Any suggestions for a solution?

cheers

Not threadworthy so just sticking here.

What is the absolute cheapest I'm gonna pay for a new laptop? This was the cheapest I could find on ebay.

Not interested in tablets or anything like that. Will be formatting the hard drive and running a linux distro on it and just looking for a cheapo to * around with.

The other option is a raspeberry pi but no monitor will prove to be painful for moving around - http://www.element14.com/community/groups/raspberry-pi

If it's going to eventually run headless the Pi is a good option, otherwise just pick up something 2nd hand. If you really need something new MLN are very reliable and have some good deals.

yeah was toying with the idea of a second hand one. would ideally want a complete new hard drive so the additional ~$70 would bring it up toward the cost of the brand new $270 laptop.

food for thought anyway.

Can someone test if either of these sites works for them? They don't for me. They are a cardiovascular device and software company that we are looking to work with.

And I'm unable to ping any site from work, pretty sure that used to work fine last time I tried. Can't even ping google.com.
Didn't load for me.

In the future, this is a pretty good site to check whether it's you or the website - http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

In our office here one of the girls is able to open some documents on our network, but not others. There doesn't seem to be any discernible pattern as to which ones are opening and which ones aren't. My first thought is that someone has those documents open, but there are only four us in here so and no one does. Any hints? Strange problem.

What's the error message?
Same folder inside the share?
Can someone else log into that PC and successfully access the documents? Can she log into another PC and do the same?

Hey guys, wasn't sure where to post this so here goes..

Is there any way to strengthen the signal from a wifi modem? I recently moved my PS3 into a different room (about 10 metres further away from the modem), and it still connects with the internet, but I can experience a bit of lag at times. I also get signed out of PSN occasionally.

If there isn't any method I can undertake to "strengthen" the range of the signal, we'll have to get another telephone line socket installed closer to the PS3 and hook the modem up to that. Any idea how much something like that would cost?

Cheers.

If range is the issue the cheapest option is possibly a range extender, they can use your houses electrical wiring to extend the network and there are now models that have a wifi access point on one end. I've never used them before but a workmate has one of the older models which he hasn't had any issues with. It might be worth giving this a read...

We just ordered a wifi booster from Telstra, is that the same as a range extender? I'm not too well informed in that area. To add to that, has anyone else had any history with a wifi booster? Do they work well?

It should be similar, just with the Telstra premium attached :p
Haha true. We just called Telstra and that's what they recommended. And I thought it'd be better buying from them, seeing as they're our provider and would probably be the most reliable. Cheers for your help.

my mac has absolutely crapped itself.

Giving me the folder with the question mark, which means it's not finding where the software is installed if I'm not mistaken.

Trying to reinstall lion but no disks are showing up when it gives the option.

Is it best to just take it straight to the apple store? Or is there something I can do myself?

Um, Time Machine?

Don't use time machine. Got a hard drive with all my stuff on it except for the very recent on it though.

Will have another look in the morning, reckon I can fix it
