An article in the a 1989 Sunday Press written by Jack Dunn told of a gun forward named Daryl Jordan. Daryl was playing for Walbundrie in the Hume FL.
A club official was quoted in saying that Daryl in his second year at the club was on track to kick his second ton for Walbundrie.
" He a bit lazy, only doing what is necesary, but he's already kicked eleven consecutive tons."

Does anyone know any history on Daryl's career ?
Where did he played and years ?

eleven consecutive tons would be from 1978 to 1988

Daryl played for Federals in the Upper Murray FL.
in 1977 he won the goalkicking with 80 .

In 1979 he won it again with 143.

Came second in 76 and 78.

I played with "Dobber" at Walbundrie. He was a freak.

As far as I remember he also had a season or two with North Albury. That was before I went out there, which would make it prior to '83 I think.

It's fair to say he wasn't a keen trainer, although he was blessed with a magnificent physique. He's a great bloke to boot, just not motivated to make footy the most important thing in his life. It was a mistake to try and out-drink him too.

We used to kick "Dobber passes" to him - that entailed kicking the ball any old way in his general direction - he made us look good more often than not. He was a really good pack mark. As for his nickname, he rarely missed.

If he got anywhere near CHF, the runner would go out to see if there was anything wrong, as he used to get dizzy and start pining if he got too far away from the goal square.

Other than anyone on BigFooty, you could ring Teddy Miller, who was the coach during Dobbie's time out there. He would know the details chapter and verse. He runs the North Albury Sports Store store in Centro Lavington.

I saw a fair bit of him in his Upper Murray days and he was a legend up there. Recently delisted Swan Adam Prior is Dobbie's nephew and they were very similar players. In one of those years he kicked a hundred he did it by kicking goals on his left foot as his right leg was crook.

Return to Federals as coach in 1986 and kicked 129, including 12 the Grand Final and 12 in the Second Semi Final. Kicked 10 in a Interleague game.

Played for Jindera in 1982

any relation of current big man Dan Jordan? i think he's running around Ballarat way somewhere these days, formerly played in the ammos.

What's going on there Todman, are you drip feeding us the info??:D:D

I went up to a UMFL grand Final with him one year, and stayed at his place. Federals and Corryong, and it was a real eye opener, with supporters punching on in the rooms at half time. The emotions after the game were pretty raw, it was take no prisoners!!!

Nevertheless, the grog flowed freely . Probably why I can't remember exactly which year!!!

The dripfeed continues , next week I'm reading the Corryong Courier from 1975-1978 and 1987-1989

All true.

That year was at Walbundrie,,, he had some 80 goals up by round 9 and damaged his achillies tendon. Missed 3 games and then came out and played for the remaining 6 home and away games and bagged another 30 plus goals on his opposite foot as he could not kick with the crook achillies foot.

Don't forget these upper murray seasons were only 12 games a year, then finals. Proberley missed a few games over those years due to injury as a rule of thumb,,, resulting in a average of some 9 goals a game every time he played,,,, unreal

in 1981, he played pre season with North Albury, as his older brother Lindsay was a regular at full back. Dobber didn't like this level and played for Jindera that season and kicked some 140 plus.In 1982 he booted 170 goals for Jindera. And believe it or not he didn't win the league goalkicking, as former Albury tiger , Peter Gibbons bagged 180 that year for Brocklesby. In 1984, 1985, 1988 he bagged some 130 goals plus each season, and in 1989, kicked 156. he did kick over 100 goals a season on 11 or 12 occasions,.. resulting in around 1700 to 1800 goals in his career. His average goals per game over some 16 seasons was around 8.5 per game. Unreal . .
I played beside him 1988 and 1989, being first rover and changing in the forward pocket, and what I saw this guy do was unreal..... talk about a bloke that was a champion in the bush,,, well this guy could of been a gun at afl level if he had the desire.
A further story is then Walbundrie coach, Ted Miller, owned his north albury sports store, and at the time,ex Collingwood great, Len Thompson was the Adidas rep and Hawthorn great in Peter Knights was the Puma rep. Ted developed good relationships with these guys and they came and watched some of the finals games Walbundrie were in.. after witnessing Dobber play, they couldn't believe his talent andwanted to know the reason why he doesn't want to give the big time a shot.
More fact, is that a few years earlier , whilst Dobber was at Federals in the Upper Murray comp, the Sydney Swans offered both Dobber and Dennis Carroll contracts. Dobber declined, Carroll accepted and became a great player for the Swans and Captain.I know Dennis well, and he says that Dobber wud of been a gun in the Afl...such was his talent.

Work it out with the above stats,,,,, some 16 seasons kicking 1731 goals,,, that's an average of 108 goals a season for 16 years. And take into account that the Upper murray comp had only 12 home and away games a season before finals in those days. This is an incredible record. I played for Berrigan in the Murray league in 1980 where we won the flag. Our playing coach was the great Graham Bland , whom kicked some 1600 goals in his days( for Merbein and Berrigan) Blandy was in oar of Jordan and his record. And as Blandy said, it doesn't matter what level comp u play in, u still gotta get the pill to kick goals. U mite hav lesser quality defenders around u, but u hav lesser quality feeders upfield. So it evens itself out as he wud say,.. so true.

The other freak was Trevor Sutton... played against him in my time at Berrigan. He played for Deniliquin and bagged 121 in his first season there and then he had the year where he kicked 249 goals. ALL time record... Now we know how well this record is documented, but something that is not said, is that he did it from centre half forward,( not full forward) Unreal. Had explosive pace over 10 metres, great mark, super strong.unreal reader of the ball in the air, and just a great kick, ... could kick the ball 70 to 75 metres real.in fact he should of kicked close to 300 , but due to his showmanship, he on many times would take the mark, and kick the ball over his head facing the opposite direction. In the 2 home and away games that season against us, he bagged 15 and 12 goals. He should of kicked another 4 per game , but he was showing off with these kicks over the head.Regardless, 249 goals in a 18 game season equates to 13.9 goals a game..... that is just folklore.
