On another messageboard, so many posts were made about highest senior grade football scores that I've decided to put the question out there, and see what we can find.

Most agree that the highest ever score was Campbells Creek's 100.34.634 scored against Primrose in 1991.

I'm now on a quest to find the top 10 for each state/territory (NSW and ACT treated as one).

ODFA in Tasmania:
Woodsdale 77-29-491 vs Colebrook 0-1-1 Round 2 1993

The ODFA web-site www.odfa.asn.au under their records section claim this to be the Australian record for an affiliated league. They mention the Campbells Creek 634 also but claim it to be in an unaffiliated league.

Woodsdale also scored > 400 points in either round 1 or 3 of the same season. I know it was consecutive weeks that they topped 400.

WA

The LSWFL game in the WA section was between Tigers and Royals.
I have come across a couple of big scores in the Great Southern Football League back in the 1980s just before Denmark/Walpole folded and as I am away from my records at present I will post them later.

Great score!

The affiliation issue I consider a little bit moot. 'Affiliation' in Tassie means something insular, doesn't it? Like to be part of some special group of leagues? The MCDFL (the 634 score) is and was definitely registered with the VCFL, so in my opinion it should stand.

(correct me if I'm wrong on this!)

Elizabeth kicked 60 odd goals to Ovingham's 2.
Not sure of the exact score.
I played in this game and kicked two goals myself.
All 21 players in our side kicked a goal, full forward scored 13 before half time, at which point we turned the team around - under 10s stuff.
Score would've been much higher but we passed the ball around a bit to make sure every player kicked a goal. The final goal kicker scored four behinds before kicking a major.
This match was played on the same weekend that Ross Gibbs went on a goal kicking spree against Port Elliot in the Great Southern Football League.

From what I remember, affiliation meant being under the ultimate control of the state football body. Thus if a player was suspended playing for a team in an affiliated league, he couldn't play for some other team somehwere else. It also had something to do with being an officially registered player for insurance purposes.

If someone knows for sure (Jerome?) then I'd be interested to know.

I agree with you that it all seems like a very technical attempt to claim the record!

I'm still trying to verify the exact details on the other 400+ score by Woodsdale that same season.

Well I think the MCDFL are under the same rules as any others in Vic, which is why I reckon the affiliation thingy simply doesn't apply in Vic.

Food for thought, though. ANyone else know the details of 'affiliation' and why the MCDFL mightn't fit the bill?

Mob according to a publication I have " Football in South Australia
1907 - 1972" North Whyalla kicked 57-50 (392) against Weeroona on 10th May 1970. The "Brother of God" Rodney kicked 23 goals at Full Forward.
According to the same publication this equalled the previous highest score in any match in South Australia that being Flinders Park 60-32 (392) against Kings Old Colegians 0-0. That was scored on 4th June 1949 in the Amateur League's Grade A3.

They were the record scores 30 years ago anyway.

What happened to Landsborough in 2001? The number of huge scores kicked against them is extraordinary.
Other clubs may have folded after a couple of games copping floggings like that. Did Landsborough survive the season? I'd hate to imagine what their percentage was.

Dogwatcher, Lindner, I'm onto it!

Bomber Spirit, Landsborough managed to make it through every round with a drubbing every week. I think they forfeited a few reserve matches. They're percentage at one stage mid-season was under 5%!

HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN

Landsborough has been in the news a little of late, for all the wrong reasons. They've been on the wrong end of some downright dastardly hidings this season. Landsborough recently sported a percentage of 4.8, and margins have wandered between 40 and 60 goals.

This is the side of the Hawks that we're seeing now, but it wasn't always so. Landsborough have quite a long, and a proud, history.

After stints in the Ararat Football Association and the Mountain Creek FA, the Boroughs won a couple of flags in the Ararat District Football Association, before traipsing over to try their hand in the Lexton Football League. The mid-eighties might very well have been their finest period. 1984, 1985 and 1986 were premiership years. That's right, three on the trot, against some of the very same teams who are now tearing cute chunks out of them at will.

The first of the trilogy was an exciting 13 point win against Lexton. This campaign involved a serious spate of soul-searching after dipping out to Lexton in the second semi-final, followed by a big win over international powerhouse Marnoo in the Prelim. Their first pennant in the LFL was received with understandable glee. Everybody likes seeing Lexton get beaten. 'tis grouse.

The Boroughs were more systematic in 1985, creaming Lexton in the second semi-final, and enjoying a comfortable 6 goal victory against the same side in the Granny. In 1986, the same two teams met again, and once again Landsborough broke the heart of the Tigers, this time with a 26 point win. They couldn't put a foot wrong.

In 1987 Landsborough were defeated by Marnoo in the Preliminary Final, and the rot set in. They lost the last 10 games of the home and away season in 1988, including a 117 point thumping at the hands of Lexton (who I suppose must still have been a bit shirty). Even Dunolly beat them, and they couldn't play their way out of a light fog. From then on it was pretty well downhill all the way. 1989 saw a draw against Dunolly (oh, woohoo, gopher dance), and very little else.

Rural decline has not helped, with the Hawks now unable to field a reserve team. But the Under 16s still get out on the field, and have even scored a win this year. Ah, a win.

The mind is willing, but the percentage is 4.8.

In the DVFL, the Coburg Cougars kicked 44 13 277 to defeat West Lalor 1 1 7 in an under 15s game in the year 2000. I can't remember being at a more one sided contest.

Just thought I would add that they won the premiership as well.

I've seen worse in juniors - Stratford's under 13s in the early nineties had a shocker of a year where they had the league's record highest score kicked against them by Rosedale, can't remember what it was exactly but it was well over 300 to nothing.

One kid kicked 20. Pretty impressive for 12 year olds on a full sized ground.

Mob, now you mention it I remember seeing an article about Geelong West that year copping unblelievable floggings (4 or 5 hundred plus) all season in the Ressies and thirds - then somehow winning a solitary game by ten points.
