Brad Crouch was a special wasn't he? Something to do with the Phil Davis comp pick and would have gone top 5 maybe if he'd gone to the draft?

There was some kind of mini-draft for 17 year old kids... I think 2 players 1 year, 2 players the year after. GWS couldn't draft them themselves, but they could trade the picks to other clubs. So the Crows took their Davis compensation pick and gave it to GWS for pick #2 in 2012. Suns got Jaeger O'Meara at pick 1, Crows got Crouch at 2. The following year Suns got Jack Martin at 1 and Melbourne got Jesse Hogan at 2.

We also held 6, but traded it to Brisbane for Matthew Clarke

I didn't know that, and I wish I could return to the time where I still didn't know that. You sir, have robbed me of my innocence*.

Hindsight being a wonderful thing, Melbourne look like they will make out like bandits on that deal

Hey guys,

Forgive the intrusion.

I read a post today which said Adelaide haven't had a draft pick higher than 7 in their history.

First of all is that true?

Secondly if that is the case, how did the crows build their very first list. Was it largely made up of SANFL players?

Finally, Where might you do some online reading about the beginning of the club? I had a quick search but knew I'd get the answer here.

Thanks in advance

Great video here for you

We have had only a few single digit draft picks over the years and the players we selected have been spuds.

Now that Paddy is going we won't have a top 10 draft pick on our entire list. I would imagine we would be the only club in that situation.

Its a shame players like Sticks, Platten, Bradley and a couple of the Collingwood boys like Francis and Russell didn't want to return home in 91..

Didn't Carlton breach the salary cap by paying Bradley and kernahan under the table, to stop them returning home?

Makes Rendell's work all the more miraculous.

But it's not fair to say that Kerls acted too slowly to get Jarman's signature, because eventually Jarman did sign a letter of intent to join Adelaide (they had no official AFL contracts yet), received a signing-on cheque and shook hands with Neil Kerley when the deal appeared done. However, this is where the story takes its controversial twist.

Kerley dropped the ball big time on that one. There was some feeling there, and you'll notice that even when Fud came back to Adelaide he never got interviewed post game by Kerley. Not sure if they ever kissed and made up.

Imagine if we'd also had the reasonably fit midfielder version of Darren Jarman from 91-95, as well as the less fit but still kicks 6 and 5 goals in both Grand Finals version.

You may like to know then that it was pick 6 and 21

Fud also got the benefits of the player retention scheme back then, which he bought a news agency with. Added to the overall ill feeling

And didn't we use pick 7 on Lawrence Angwin?
