Re: Jonathan Brown #2

Tale of two greats who cannot be separated
GERARD WHATELY
April 5th, 2010

Brown is a brute. Riewoldt an artist. Brown is fearsome. Riewoldt fearless. The Lion will throttle a game. The Saint will bend it to his will. To borrow a clich Brown is a man's man, a footballer's footballer. Riewoldt is a modern soul, unafraid to shed a tear.

When the game was slipping away against Carlton, Brown manoeuvred himself into contests he had no right to win. He clutched the mark out of necessity and desire, then proceeded to set up a telling goal against the flow. It left retired champion Chris Grant awestruck. For the seven goals Brown kicked; including the sweetest imaginable striking of the ball from outside the 50 metre arc, that mark was his defining contribution.
