That Delaney guy started the whole thing when he punched Brown across the back of the head in the first 5 minutes. That late hit by Brown was pretty much unavoidable. Was already in the air and if he had actually put his arm out to spoil might have looked like he was 'in the contest' a bit more.

Round 10 preview

After a slow start to the season, there are signs captain Jonathan Brown is returning to his best. In the past fortnight he has kicked seven goals and taken 26 grabs. In his 100th match as captain of the Lions - joining Michael Voss and Roger Merrett - Brown will come up against one of the great modern era full-backs in Darren Glass. Their match-up will be both intriguing and vital to the outcome.

Brisbane Lions skipper Jonathan Brown aims to lead team to finals before retiring

Having tasted success in only one AFL final as skipper - a stirring win over Carlton at the Gabba in 2009 - Brown says he has some unfinished business to attend to.
"At this stage of my career, I just want the club to get back to experiencing some sort of success and get back to playing finals.
"It's one step at the time at the moment . . . (but) I enjoy passing on some knowledge and experience to the younger fellas to help them in their development.
"It's an important phase that I'm in now and that the club is in, and I enjoy that role."

The man loves his footy club. That is at the core of why he is such a universally regarded leader.

He doesn't just see the captaincy as an ego stroke or a tick on his resume (which I suspect is the bulk of the appeal for one C. Judd) - he loves the club, it has been part of his family for 2 generations and he wants to do his bit to leave it in a better position than he found it in.

I think that Rocky, while still having a degree of growing up to do, will have the same mindset. He was passed over by so many clubs and faced the possibility of his dream being over before it started. He continually states how grateful he is to the Lions for giving him his shot and is intent on repaying the faith.

Agree TBD...and why I feel it is so important that he is retained at the club by any means;)...we need his strength of character for others to see and grow with..

..and just on the Aker interview last night, it was the one glaring thing he said about Brisbane, it was the very strong leadership from the top all the way down....it never faltered.

We have to get that back......we have it with Voss and Brown, but they must stay with the club to keep leading the way....they have something very unique, other clubs do not have it like we did..

..and that is/was the strength of the Brisbane Lions..

Brown's feast and famine Lions career

Well before he'd played 100 AFL games as a bustling young Lion, Jonathan Brown was an accomplished triple premiership player.
Now entering his 100th match as Brisbane captain, Brown admits any dreams of a fourth are unrealistic and making finals can't be contemplated for a while yet.
There in highlights the feast-then-famine career of one of the game's best power forwards and proudest clubmen.
"It's probably been a rough 100 games but there's been a few highlights along the way."

Captain Courageous

Even when he first arrived in Queensland as a teenager back in 2000, you could tell that Jonathan Brown would eventually be groomed into a future leader of the Brisbane Lions.

Brown had the privilege of serving under some of the absolute greats during his development years - including Leigh Matthews, Michael Voss, Alastair Lynch, Justin Leppitsch, Nigel Lappin, Marcus Ashcroft and the Scott brothers. No young player could have been afforded a better footballing apprenticeship.

Brown to lead Lions for 100th time

JONATHAN Brown rates his West Coast opposite Darren Glass as one of the best defenders of the modern era and can't wait to renew their long-standing rivalry at the Gabba on Sunday.

Glass, 31, and Brown, 30, first squared off in the under-18 national championships in 1999 for Western Australia and Victoria respectively.

Since then they have forged spectacular careers at either end of the ground - and on opposite sides of the country.

Glass is a three-time All Australian fullback and premiership player, while Brown is universally regarded as one of the most dominant and courageous forwards of the past 25 years.

Now, that would be an extra birthday present for someone else here on this board!:D;)..

A sagittarian is a happy go lucky, independant, sports loving, outdoorsy type person...just the kind of player we need, with a bit of stubborn scorpio thrown in..

Congrats to our JB and Kylie.....every Lion will be thrilled with this news tonight..

*I checked the scan on the twitter photo, couldn't see if bubby had the required piece of equiptment needed to become a Father/Son Lion:p

Brent Staker

"He gives 100 per cent to every-thing he does and the talk of him hanging up the boots is ridiculous," Staker said, referring to claims Brown had to either retire or curb his aggression at the ball so as not to risk further serious injury.
"He might be 30 years old but in his mind he still thinks he's a 25-year-old, and he certainly trains like one. He gives so much as captain of the club and he's one of the all-time greats here, so he'll always be owed something.
"As players, the best thing we could give him is to win games and get to the finals. That's the best way to repay these sort of guys."
