Despite rule, Leven allows kicks to count

THE recent Leven Football Association game between Castra and Mole Creek will stay official, despite Castra only fielding 11 players.
Two Mole Creek players booted their 100th goals during that game and the tally will stand, according to Leven general manager Anne-Maree Brown.
Leven's constitution states that a game involving a team that has less than 14 players can't be held as it would be unfair to best and fairest voting as well as goal kicking.
It would normally be declared a forfeit on behalf of the team with the least number of players, but it was decided on Saturday the Mole Creek match-up would be played with just a combined 23 players on the field.
"The association, central umpires and respective team coaches all met at the start of the game and all agreed the game would go ahead despite Castra only having 11 players.
"Castra were allowed to field the 11 players and Mole Creek 13 as per the rules, and to keep the voting fair and the goal kicking, the quarters were shortened to just 15 minutes each," Brown said.
Both Shane Campbell and Tim West booted their 100th goals of the season as they led Mole Creek to a 231-point victory.
LFA president John Perkins said the association would normally only allow the teams to play with 14 players and the opposition to play with two extra.
