What has that got to do with how hard cocky plays though? Its cockys intensity that cause the injury not his opponents. He did his hammy kicking the ball after all in open space. He still would of done that in the vfl.
I'm sorry but you're not intelligent enough to see these kinds of things Seedsy.

Bullshit. The higher intensity the game is being played at means the higher the risk is of injuring your hamstring. It's just common bloody sense I would have thought...

I can admit that's plausible, even likely. I can also admit I know f*ck-all about the area so am only taking a stab at the answer.

Not sure is anyone else noticed, but I'm pretty sure in the 3rd quarter Cockatoo took a mark in our forward 50 and it looked like he did something when taking the mark.

He had a strange expression on his when going back to take his kick like wanted someone to handball to rather than take the kick himself.

He seemed pretty relaxed on the kick and got the goal - not sure if he came off after that or not, but I wonder if something wasn't right then and he either wanted to push through or it was suggested he go back out

Didn't look much in it when he pinged it. Minor strain probably.

Must be some underlying issue causing it cause he wasn't even at full stretch. Will surely have to see a specialist.
Sees them on a daily basis.
There are no more specialised personnel to treat a soft tissue injury than the team physios and docs.
Happened to Rioli a lot early on

He looked so good tonight we're going to miss him up forward such a shame hope he can get his body right perhaps he should have a chat with Cyril about getting his body right.

Ok so here comes a rant... How many of us said that he needed at least one game in the VFL before being ready for senior selection? But no, the club knows best apparently. Lets play him in a game that means **** all so that we can prove how clever we are compared to the rest of the competition... FMD when it comes to things such as these we're ****ing hopeless.

Rant over I guess.

Well they probably do as they work with him nearly every day.
Certainly would have a better idea than those who watch from afar and are not even sport medicos despite the fact that he got re injured.

Frustrating but they hardly rushed him back, Rioli had similar issues as a youngster. Most likely a biomechanical issue that he is just as likely to injure whether playing VFL or AFL.

They are probably working on that along with strengthening exercises as well.

Said it after his last tear and will say it again, its time to look at his running style and redevelop it along the manner Hawthorn did with Cyril when he was pinging his string constantly.

The truth is, very young players are like very tall players: they need twice as much time to recuperate. And in the AFL, time is money. So, no. You get out there, and injure yourself again. Then the club can say "It's just unfortunate, the medical staff said he was ready to go. Hmm, but we'd sack the medical staff if they said otherwise, so..."

Not a rant. Common sense would dictate that we would at least give him a half in the VFL. Results show we have not managed him well.

Thing is, hammys go while running. He could have done his in the VFL just as easily as he has in the seniors. It's a shite state of affairs, but there it is.
VFL is a lower intensity league and due to the game being less important to win we could have managed his game time.
Rather than going from nothing to a full blown AFL match.

Really hope we can get him back for finals. He's crucial to the forward line. But then, do we bring him straight back again into a cut throat final off no base? Could be a disaster. Praying it's just tightness or a minor strain.

That is exactly the truth. Anybody who says we rush our players back recurrently is incorrect.
They would have monitored his progress with strength tests, MRI scans, and progressive speed and endurance sessions. He would have ticked every box.
It has to be remembered that hamstring injuries continue to be the #1 reason for games missed.
They are common, frustrating and the most difficult injury to manage. Maybe the old man's calf tears are just as frustrating.
We do NOT KNOW the exact nature of his original injury or the recurrence, but I really believe our medical team deserves better than the derision thrown its way by retrospective opinions.
Some players are in the unlucky bracket, and there may be a biomechanical or a spinal cause underlying all this- if there is, these guys will find it out.

He has to play if fit. His and parfitt's forward pressure are what we will need on the big ground at the G if we are to protect our slow back 6 on the spread.

Given motlop and menzel's forward pressure are poor we have to roll the dice with cockatoo if he can get back. The pre finals bye will give him a chance.
You see the difference he makes soon as he's back in the side.

Dangerfield is on AFL Game Day on 7 (I think Hawkins on as a guest also) - Danger was just discussing Cockatoo's injury and said he doesn't know how long he will be out, but that in terms of his training/workload that Cockatoo has been in full training mode for 3 weeks and was running at 36km/h during this past week which is faster than players get up to during games.

Fair enough, but as we know training cannot create a pure game day and AFL intensity situation. You can do all the stuff like stop/start running; acceleration; change of direction; but you can't create a scenario in training to make the body and mind act as if it is a game (i.e. production of adrenaline etc.).

Maybe Cocky needs to talk to Cyril to get the details on what he had to change.
